Cartier is not a true high horology watch brand

Cartier makes bags and belts and clothes and stuff
People that buy Cartier watches are not watch people, they just bought the cartier watch as an accessory for their fashion.

Cartier is just a boujee version of Michael Kors (or Michael Kors copy them, but same difference).  Michael Kors is a fashion brand that makes clothes, bags etc and watches.

Or the Santos...

·

Gonna disagree with you -- Cartier, while primarily a jewelry company, has been making in-house movements for several years now, in a similar fashion to Bvlgari.   Cartier is far more of a watchmaker, than say, Montblanc.

·

Some people just like to watch the world burn...

·

The structure of the argument:

The Straw Man Fallacy:

Cartier makes bags and belts and clothes and stuff

Yes, and what of it? Cartier has been making watches longer than almost every other manufacturer (like Rolex, for example). Their ability to do more than one thing does not necessarily detract from their watch making prowess. They were a watch brand before being a fashion brand (and after being a jewelry brand).

The Ad Hominem Fallacy (that includes a False Choice Fallacy):

People that buy Cartier watches are not watch people, they just bought the cartier watch as an accessory for their fashion.

Cartier is just a boujee version of Michael Kors (or Michael Kors copy them, but same difference).  Michael Kors is a fashion brand that makes clothes, bags etc and watches.

This is an attack on the consumers of Cartier. There is no basis of knowledge stated for this proposition. Perhaps, because it is just an opinion wrapped in an insult. This statement presumes to know the motivations of all of the consumers of the second most popular Swiss watch brand. The insult is compounded by referring to Cartier consumers as materialistic. Whether all or some are is immaterial. An emphasis on materialism is a component of the entire luxury watch industry. There is no way of knowing if it affects Cartier's consumers more.

The false choice here is the comparison to Michael Kors. Did Michael Kors produce arguably the first sports watch more than a hundred years ago? Did they produce a watch that was the dominant influence in watch design in the first half of the 20th Century? Are they well made watches or they just a name slapped on an anodyne pre-fab watch?

Do you know who else is making good watches? Louis Vuitton.

Any brand that has perpetual calendars, minute repeaters and tourbillons are haute horology.

·

Do you actually believe all that?

·

Yep…lately as in several per decade for the last century or so.

·

Riiight. Like Casio is just a calculator company that makes watches? 🤣

·

Riiight. Like Casio is just a calculator company that makes watches? 🤣

Wait, like Seiko, Grand Seiko, and Orient all being owned by a copier company?

·

Oh man, this sounds like a bad time to mention I was gifted a Michael Kors watch by a non-watch person a while ago on an accomplishment of mine…(I still own it and appreciate it as a gift)

·

You are talking cap...🧢

·

Wow - hard disagree. But also, don't gatekeep the hobby. There is no right or wrong way to be "watch people".

·

Imagine a brand associated with Michael Kors overtaking Omega 😂😂😂

omega was killed by Seiko until a a company selling disposable quartz watches saved it. they are now depending on the fake moon landing, parent company making their iconic watch disposable and b list movie stars to market their watch. And they still got beat by Cartier, a literal fashion brand who are not dependant on watch sales 😂😂😂😂

Casio makes keyboards, calculators, and other things. Seiko is owned by Epison who makes printers and other electronic gizmos. I still think they make fine watches.

This would include Tag?

Right I've got several issues with this. Starting with the title.

"High Horology". How, pray tell, do you have "high horology" watches? Horology is the study of keeping time. Watches are but a fraction of Horology. Tompion, Harrison, George Daniels and Hooke. All very impressive men who contributed much to Horology, and only one of them worked on wristwatches. You mean a high end watchmaker.

And Cartier are in fact a high end watchmaker. Now obviously it is all relative, like A lange and Sohne is clearly higher quality, but overall they are beautiful luxury high quality watches. They are manufacturers of the first sports watch and the first ever purpose made men's wristwatch. Cartier have been around longer than Rolex. Carriers history is littered with firsts. They have in-house movements.

So how are they not a high quality watch brand?

Omega makes high end watches, not everyone can have.

Cartier is a fashion brand targetting the vast majority of simps.

So ofc Cartier can sell more....

Omega is a true watch brand that sells stuff with their logo.

Same as Ferrari selling watches with their logo, but ferrari is a car company.

Cartier is not mainly known for watches, it's known for fashion products, with a by product of watches.

This would include Tag?

Heuer was an amazing brand with great history, but now Tag Heuer is a junk quartz movement watch brand.

You literally can find discounted New Tag Heuer for like 200 dollars.

·

Cartier is a prime example of a fashion brand.

They make decent quality products, stamp their logo on it and it sells.

I am sure Cartier watch quality is fine, especially when you are paying so much.

But Cartier is not a watch brand it's a fashion brand.  It targets consumers that just want their logo on their person, so girls buy Cartier watch because it looks nice and compliment their accessories.

Same thing like Michael Kors (granted Michael Kors quality isn't that great yet), but eventually Michael Kors and Cartier will be the same.

A fashion Brand.

Also meaning Tag Heuer 😜 Check it out for yourself! They make at least two of the mentioned complications

There are lots of forums where this sort of thing is de rigueur. You will find that WC is not one of them.

Enjoy your time here. You needn't worry about engaging with me further.

Or the Santos...

Either way Cartier is not just a    jewery company, they have a long history of watchmaking

why did you delete your comment brah? You know, even clowns are proud of their work.

anyways; literally ANYONE can buy ANY Omega. They just choose not to. Who would want a GSHOCK homage 😂;

Image

and your argument on Cartier being a fashion brand, the sales figures were taken from the sales figures of watches only. If youre comparing as a whole brand, think about it, you’d really want to buy an Omega perfume/fine leather over a Cartier? 🤣🤣

Image

we may be simps, but we’re definately not stupid

trust me, we dont want to be same like you
