If you haven't seen my original post on this I have been looking for an around about 500 dollar watch this would be a daily wear and should be able to take a bit of a beating.
In my original post I had 3 ideas: Hamilton khaki field mechanical, Tissot prx and the glyciene combat sub.
I have since removed the prx from the running as it's to dressy and I would prefer 4hz beat rate.
I have also added the steinhart ocean one vintage gmt 39mm and the Seiko baby alpinist.
Yes the baby alpinist is 3hz but it is so well refined.

Victorinox have some nice watches in that price range. I’ve got a titanium quartz I.N.O.X and a mechanical Alliance and can recommend them both. Also many Victorinox models have got tough ratings that rival G-Shock.
Have you thought about a CWC? Legible, cool looking, durable (they ran an army on them I think they'll handle your 9-5) and they're within budget
I'd recommend taking a look at Orient's line of dive watches. A lot of value to be had in the under $500 range.
If you are interested in microbrands as @roberto suggested, you might also look at the Axios Flagship or Hemel Sea Dart.
Axios Flagship
Hemel Sea Dart
Baltic has some nice offerings in and around your price range.
