Multi-language Day Wheels?

My recently acquired new old stock Seiko 5 SNXS73 came from a reputable grey market vendor. I was wondering where the stock of these might be coming from, given production of the movement ended in 2011 and the “5” line got a makeover in 2019. Then I spotted the day wheel in English and Arabic. Must have been somewhere serving the Middle East, I suppose.

I have other day/date in English/Spanish. This is my first Arabic example.

What languages do you have or have you seen on watch day wheels?

I have a similar Seiko (mine is the SNXS75 though). I bought it from a local pawn shop, but I didn’t realize it had the Arabic date wheel until I got home. It’s my second Arabic-Indic Seiko, and I find them fascinating!

I have English/French on a Seiko monster. SKX781 if I remember correctly. And English/german on a citizen Promaster auto.

·

Yup my first day date was English Arabic too

·

I explicitly ordered my SBSA057 from Japan to get the Kanji date wheel (English is the second language on the whee)l

The only watch with a day wheel I own is in Swiss German (Mäntig, Zischtig etc.).

Boy that's some spicy looking sand script

·

I own watches with English/French and English/Japanese day wheels.

·

I had an SKX with that Arabic/English date wheel as well.

As I’m based in Germany, my Seikos bought here have English/German day wheels. The Seiko 5 I bought from Singapore came with an English/Spanish wheel, which was a nice surprise, as I’m native from Spain. It was always curious to see a blue SAB on Saturdays. My vintage Seiko SQ 4004, bought from an Egyptian dealer, had a cool vertical day complication with a wheel in 3 languages, English/French/Spanish:

My Seiko prospex has german and English...

My Seiko 5 has this too, but for some reason they only show up from midnight to 3 a.m. for some reason, then just goes to English day names

·

I am also fascinated by this. I don’t enjoy a day window in English but like the international remnder of another language. Any Dutch day wheels out there?

Be careful when setting the date if the watch is showing a time within a few hours of midnight. If you force the change while the mechanism is near the switch it can move things. If it bothers you, it should be something a reputable watchmaker can fix. Best of luck! 🤝

Or…the mechanism does have to pass over one language to get to the other. If you want to set the other language, move the hand to noon-ish (see previous comment) and set the language you want to see. Yes, the other will be visible for a time near midnight when the day/date is changing. 👍🏻

This #seiko5 has both #arabicdial (numbers) as well as an English and Arabic day-date wheel.
