I came across this idea of "Camp" watches from a fratello article. So I found my camp watch friend and we talk Rolex 2 tone and if it's the market is right to pick up a campy GMT master.
You can check out how it looks on my tiny wrist on my page. I don't want to spam you even more with a photo here 😆 and yes I am fan-girling that you replied 😄

The Pogue is camp, the moonswatches are camp, Invicta are very camp indeed… Rolex Bluesy by this point is camp, not to mention the ‘love peace’ date just type thingy, and maybe the coloured dots OP. Anything blinged up to the nines, whether it be a diamond encrusted G-Shock or something a few quid on Amazon with ‘Biden’ or ‘Lige’ on the dial is camp as a row of pink tents.
For an out of watch example — Star Trek from the sixties is and was camp, whereas deep space nine isn’t particularly. Except when it really tries.
(We had to study this at one point in my education xD)
Edit to add: so far as I can see, everything Richard Mille has ever done is camp too. Homages are arguably camp by nature (as they are all about a performance) but it’s only camp if you recognise them I guess.
It is something that is so bad and awful, that it develops an own appeal, style and charm.
For example think of the trash episode of Stark Trek Enterprise where Kirk fights a Gorn in an arena world. It is almost impossible to stand the bad actings, the butchered costumes, the papier māché environment design etc. This episode in the original show is so bad that it left a deep imprint in the pop culture and became a source for memes.
What they say is that there are luxury watches that failed so dramaticaly that they became iconic.

Ohhh…so that’s “camp”!! Jeez … thank you for the Star Trek reference and the explanation!! …

Like @Max wearing a drug boss on vacation in Miami outfit (pineapple pink shirt and the all gold integrated watch 😏 that brew is gorgeous btw) is camp lol
Lol camp is such an unfair term! I don't like silver tones, never have. It'd take something extra special about a watch for me to go into a store an buy a silver toned watch.
Two tone is the only acceptable way for me to wear silver, ideally, I prefer gold tones. Not cause I have money or anything but because it just looks better to me. You've gone and made 95% of collection "camp" grrrrrrrr
I think I was part of this trend before it was a trend. 😜
Out of all of these watches, which I don't think are campy, your first Casio with the leopard strap is SUPER CAMP. It's a boldly stylish saying "I don't give af", look at me watch.
I don't think I own any campy watches, but one thing that max said that I resonated strongly with is that my taste in watches is getting increasingly less boring. I love it!
Yeah, same impression here….. when you say “camp” I was thinking camping as in the watch I would wear camping. I have a lot of those. But reading this thread I see you mean what we use to say was “campy” . I rely on urbandictionary.com to keep up with kiddo lingo these days. I have some eccentric watches but I don’t think I would go as far as calling them campy. Probably my closest would be a large roller digit watch with a severe blue AR coating. My son though it was cool, so I gave it to him.
I'm not buying into the 'camp' nomenclature. Now maybe it's just me (usually is), and I'm taking the video the wrong way, but the term comes off as a bit judgemental.
I don't think it's so much the definition of the word but the seemingly haphazard application solely based on one person's point of view. Even in the video it seems you both have differing opinions on the 2 tone GMT as being 'camp'. Is my square, gold, stepped case, Longines dress watch with diamonds at the cardinals on a gold filled stretch band 'camp'? Not to me, but reading that discription out loud sure sounds like it could be in that Fratello article.
Honestly it really feels like a marketing ploy. Take a potentially polarizing term, apply to previously overlooked or under appreciated (looking at you 2 toned beauties out there) part of the market, generate buzz (good or bad, who cares) to bring light to that specific corner of the market, sell more of the newly crowned, hot 'camp' watches to the discerning watch world, which until now was totally ignoring them.
Let's kept it simple everyone. Buy and wear what speaks to you, with confidence and enthusiasm that matches the enjoyment you get from wearing your watch.
Disclaimer: I do love the 2 tone Tudor Royal (pre camp buzz), and attached is potentially my current camp collection (didn't know I had one till this article 🤷), depending on your definition of the term.

That was my confusion as well! was unaware of the shortened current version.

The original fast and furious, homeless camp

Had a 34mm oyster 2 tone rolex before in 1998. But sold it in 2006. The dial is just like to 2 tone rolex explorer 1.
Pics taken from the net. Too small for me before should have kept it and give to my wife now. 😅
@Max, embracing peak ‘camp’ vibes by matching my golden watch to a Golden town. 😎
I think I was part of this trend before it was a trend. 😜

My friend- ‘campy’ is a very old word, we used it in the 80s in high school, and it far predates super old me
But likely is North American word, so for anyone elsewhere, it probably doesn’t have meaning.
new young person words - I’m confused by those as well 👴🏻
Camp is a known word in the UK as well
I don't think I own any campy watches, but one thing that max said that I resonated strongly with is that my taste in watches is getting increasingly less boring. I love it!
My first ever proper watch 20y ago...
This one two watches later...
Then...many watches later. this year suddenly
This like literally 5 hours ago....
And a few watches on the wishlist.....

A little late but here’s mine.
Camp is my middle name! 😂
I would define the majority of my collection as camp -- plenty of two-tone and full gold in there.

Are camp and kitsch the same thing or is there a subtle difference? Does price come into it? Is two-tone a pre-requisite?
What category do these watches trip and fall into?
Taste (and the English language) can be a minefield.
Blondie does not approve...
When I hear ‘camp’ my reaction is ‘field’ watch.
