Seiko officially released the new Alpinist GMT models today. The model features the 6R54 movement introduced with the MM200 GMT models earlier this year. The Alpinist GMT models lose the cyclops, gets a domed sapphire crystal, feature a nicely executed date window (barely noticeable at first glance) and a fixed 24-hour brushed steel bezel. The GMT models also get the Diashield treatment.
Two standard colours, a matte black dial and a sunburst blue dial variant. Also, a white dial launch edition. The launch edition comes on the bracelet and with an additional strap.

Yeah they look really cool.
Yea that does it for me.
Blue or white... can't decide ๐ค

The white ๐ป
They almost feel affordable compared to the last 3500โฌ KSK and 62MAS.
Here is a tricky question for you all:
If I already have a green non-GMT alpinist, and I purchase a white alpinist, would this be considered owning two of the same model in my collection?

To be fair the 6L Seiko watches are on par with entry level Grand Seiko in terms of finishing and quality. Handling one definitely makes you understand why its expensive.
The MM200 GMT is already a good seller and these Alpinist will be no exception.

I'm in the same dilemma and can't answer that question ๐
The Navigator reissue will help me finalize.
Oooh the blue...and a GMT...I haven't been tracking on this at all
Stunning pieces!
If I weren't an owner of an SBGN003 I'd be all over the white model on the bracelet.

While I love seiko, and own plenty
They aren't close to Grand seiko level of finishing, so I'm sorry I have to disagree with you on that,
The alpinist GMT does look excellent for the money though

I'm talking about the 6L and 8L series Seiko that cost above 3000.
Not the mid range Seikos at around $1000 price point.

I'm well aware of the 6L and 8L they still aren't Grand Seiko level finishing
Do we know if there are JDM ref numbers for these pieces?
Am I the only one who wants a 24 hr chapter/inner bezel ring for a third time zone rather than the useless compass rose?

The JDM references are not released yet.
I'm trying to acquire just one decent GMT for my collection and I thought I had made up my mind on another maker but what's a Seiko fan boy supposed to do?
The only answer is: get another Seiko but this time with GMT complication. There is few now: Sharp Edge GMT, 5 Sports GMT, MM200 GMT and now Alpi GMT.... anyway hard nut to crack :)
Well then you would think I'm nuts for owning an SLA051J ($2900 Retail) and SLA039 ($6800 Retail). But I just think you need to learn more about Seiko.
Same issue as some on here have commented, I have the Seiko Alpinist glacier which I love. I think these are great - I like the white and also keep getting drawn to the black.
Could not agree more. I want to love the blue... but keep getting drawn back to the black.

Yep, you are the only one... this is an Alpinist.

I'm in the same boat... but own a white alpinist and am considering the blue or black GMT version. The answer for me is no... this is different enough I think.
How's the chapter ring alignment?

The white LE is SBEJ017 and there is a green JDM only that is SBEJ005. Black and blue are not released on the Japanese market yet.

Seems like it great idea though
No braceletโฆโฆ No thanks at the price these are being sold at. And that godawful prospex X logo
I Bought the green and gold one. It came on a brown leather strap absolutely awful. So I swapped that for a black leather and I absolutely love the watch.
The pictures don't do it justice.

Depends on the model.
