Do You Have An End Game Watch?

So!!! Last week I had the pleasure of handling a watch I never thought I would! It’s a Rolex Submariner 5513, made in 1968 and is the same reference Roger Moore had on his wrist in 1974’s Live & Let Die!!!!!!
This was the first watch i Can recall ever wanting after seeing Bond’s turn into a powerful magnet and the bezel turning into a circular saw!!!!!!

The dimensions are absolutely perfect and I wish they never changed them! It’s on the original Jubilee bracelet that was supplied with all US 5513’s!

Is there a watch you have in your head where you can’t really see yourself ever owning but some day…… some day you never know!!!

I really don’t. My curiosity will always lend to dabbling in other watches no matter how many times I think I’ve acquired an “end game” watch. Interested to read the responses here. Beautiful sub you got to handle!

Me at a rolex AD “I would like to buy a 116518LN with a black dial and subdials now!”

AD reply “ Sorry sir you do not have any purchase history. Welcome to the imaginary waitlist, current waiting time is a million years”

It’s a great point my friend!
I do feel that the best watches ever made  were the ones in the past and not the present or future. If they are then they maybe reissues of like a Speedmaster with coaxial escapement etc.

but I love the ‘time‘ in our history where these little mechanical beauties were integral and hugely important to us human beings.

there’s always gonna be a lovely new watch to try on for sure though!;)

Your Rolex Submariner is a beautiful piece!

My end game watch or grail watch is Omega Seamaster Diver 300M 007 edition(210.90.42.20.01.001).

Great deal, Russ !! Congratulations. Waiting for your show and your wife comment 😜 In our world there (I hope) will be still something new and with the age your style and taste is changing too. So I believe (and I hope) I will not have an "end game watch" ever.

PS: I hope zombies will not invade the world because than only the CASIO GW-M5610-1ER will be the "end game watch".

Yes a Rolex Explorer 1. Great every day watch. Great to pass on to my daughter. It has a message too. Go explore my Freya find your interests or places in the world you like. If you get in trouble offer the Rolex for a ticket home!

·

I would give anything to get a Rolex but that's just out of my price range. But I got G-Shocks.

·

A vintage chronograph, I need to have more money if I wanted to have it maintained regularly along with the watches I already have😂 But who knows, maybe…

·

One day, maybe next year when I graduate I want to treat myself with the Oris Aquis relief bezel with the cherry dial. An absolute beauty!

One day...if I ever graduate hahaha

Always wanted to own a Rolex Datejust Rhodium Dial (126300). Last year I got the call from my AD and was able to get it.

·

This just might be the perfect watch.

End game watches or grails are a tricky subject because as soon as you get it the hunt resumes. However I submit this as one that I would probably not spend more than. It’s a 1972 1803 with door step markers and, awesome sauce, a Japan stamp bracelet which one does not see much of these days. I saw this from a local watch dealer and I fell in love. I think Day-Dates are basically your dad watch after the two tone Datejusts and I love how the white gold is just unassuming and under the radar.

JLC Reverso is my Holy Grail, El Dorado, Atlantis. But I can't imagine I will own one in my lifetime...

·

I don’t think so…but if there was one, it’d be the JLC Duoface (Blue/white)

·

I don't think there will ever be an end game watch so to speak. It's more about finding the next that sparks my interest, something then inevitably comes along that interests me more and I move on. Remembering my previous romance fondly but smitten with the next one.

"End game" makes me think of dying... and that is no fun. Like ignoring movie spoilers, I really don't want to know what will happen in the end. I prefer to watch my collecting life play out in front of me. haha. End game also implies no more collecting after such a watch is attained, and that is no fun either.

Interesting question. My end game watch is the A Lange & Sohne Lange 1 moonphase, rose gold cream dial. I’m two watches away from it today. And one of the two is on its way (Datejust, fluted dial, 36mm, fluted bezel, jubilee bracelet).  The movie Die Hard comes to mind, “Alexander wept for there were no more lands to conquer!”

As much as I love divers I’m a sucker for Art Deco and always wanted a Reverso. When JLC brought out the hybris mechanica…
