Just wanted to know about the brand Movado. Feel like I can’t find many videos about their watches on YouTube, let alone the brand itself. Would love to know if they’re a good brand or not and why that is.
Most will say that they are overpriced fashion junk.
And that’s mostly true… but they do have good build quality on their higher end stuff. Never pay retail 😬and Movado owns Ebel and Concord as well. You can get any Movado Group brand watch at an insane discount through their brick and mortar Movado Company Store located in most U.S. states. I paid $500 for my $2200 Ebel (which I took a hit on when I sold btw) so it’s a win lose…
I believe their history is similar to some other brands; historic brand from the 19th century that got bought out and shifted focus to fashion watches. Sort of an upscale Invicta. 🤣
My wife delights in ignoring the preferences of the watch community while attending their events.
At Friday nights swanky oceanfront gathering she left her Rolex, Cartier & Omega at home to fly her Movado Museum Watch...with her Armani dress and Louboutin shoes. I kinda dig that about her...

I did something like that at an enthusiast type event while on temp duty in NYC. Rocked my Swatch like a boss 😂.
Also can't wait to go to one in TX, hopefully a Red Bar, wearing the #custodesspecial (click the hashtag at your own peril bwahahahaha 😈😝)

I've been a Swatch enthusiast since the 90's. Most of those doing enough crying to fill a swimming pool were never Swatch customers in the first place but still yell "Get off my lawn."
You know, the same guys that don't like mushrooms on their pizza so they think you shouldn't either. When you do order one with mushrooms they loudly pat themselves on the back about how much wiser they are and how much more refined their pallette is.
How insecure and narrow minded does one have to be to publicly call out someone who likes something they don't? The answer is in the comments...
Tho it is fun to just poke bears in general, if its always 10/10, 5/5 it's a lil false. Nothing is ever perfect, and someone has to be the voice of discontent.... 😂.

I always wonder about those guys . . . esp. since the luxury watch space wouldn't be what it is were it not for Swatch throwing a life line to the Swiss luxury market.
I have a series 800 chronograph, I bought it about 6 months ago and love it. Being battery it keeps great time. I bought it from a AD and payed 25% off retail.
I think most of the criticism is justified in that they were born as a perfectly respected Swiss watchmaker which somewhere along the way started selling merchandise that was overpriced and often lacking in quality. With that being said they have some really cool designs. I have a Vizio that I bought 25 years ago or so, way before I got into watches, that I let sit around for 20 or so years. I recently had it serviced and it's really nice. I also recently bought a fashion watch of theirs that looks good and is a good grab and go kind of thing. I like both of them although they get little wear in my collection.
Movado was an amazing brand in the 1950s/60s/70s...
...then the quartz crisis turned them into a Mall/Fashion brand.
I still love the Museum Watch...it was my first major watch that I wore in the 1990s when Men could still wear watches that were under 30mm.
But the real heart of Movado died in the 1980s when they were acquired and used to churn out moderately priced quartz watches.
Here is an example of a solid gold 1950s Movado in pristine NOS condition...this is an amazing watch that can rank right up there with any high-end chronograph from the 1950s...
Here are a couple of 1970s Movados running the Zenith El Primero movement when the two companies were part of the same ownership (Movado in the US and Zenith in Europe)...these are amazing watches...the El Primero movement is at the pinnacle of in-house chronograph movements...

Your wife has amazing style 👏👏👏! I believe it only costs 100% more to go first class. She is a first class lady. Awesome that your wife pics the best watch pairing for a great outfit. Our wives would probably be friends. Cheers!
On the business side of things, they have an ambitous President who also handles branding, Margot Grinberg, who hired a new digital ad agency in Spring of '23 called WITHIN and their new brand launch was the last qtr or '23 and is on going in '24. Im in digital marketing and know their campaign is working. If u are seeing their ads more its because of your behavior online- likely by you visiting watch sites (web cookies), mobile data, demographics, look-a-like tactics so just simple BT and continually retarget u. Its odd to see a President who also handles the E-Comm and digital side of the business so Movado has that plus going for them. Now about the watches? Cant speak to that -still meh to me... Ha!!

I'll share that comment with her. It takes confidence to ignore the "experts" and do your own thing.
When I was a teenager, I saw the “museum watch” all the time in magazine ads. I told myself, “Someday I’ll have that watch.” As an adult, I’ve had many opportunities. But for whatever reason just didn’t want it anymore.

Among their "fashion" offerings are some good watches. You Tube isn't the end all for info.
I have a Series 800 "fashion diver that I got at TJ Maxx about 10 years ago.

Regardless if you, me, or anyone else likes it
Depends who you ask. They own a distinctive aesthetic which is more than most brands can claim.

As far as fashion/mall watches you could do far worse. They have some lovely designs imo.
They're OK, fairly dependable, I'm very attracted to some of their designs

They used to be better. I never really liked them though. If you like them, go for it.
I would say skip that brand and go to Hamilton or longines companies with a rich history and quality when it comes to their time pieces

I'm a fan, of both old and new Movado watches.

And then, sadly, this is what Movado became...
