What is everyone’s thoughts on the Mido TV Big Date?

I recently stumbled across this watch after seeing Teddy’s video on it. I was stunned by the lack of coverage on this watch because I think it looks gorgeous and absolutely stunning. I used to be conservative with my watches, preferring the classic circle shape, but I’m starting to become a real fan of the square and rectangular shapes, and the Cartier Santos being of my top most wanted watches.

I think the Mido TV Big Date is really visually stunning, and for the price of 1,800 AUD (about 1,200 USD), there really nothing remotely near in price range that can compete with it. The big date at 12 o’clock, the beautiful textured dial and the polished H-link bracelet make it such a stunning looker. Definitely something on the top of my list to add to my own collection. What are your guys thoughts on it and will you pick it up?

Nice watch but not a fan of the "big date", and at 39.2x40 mm might wear a bit big, given the case shape.

·

Its a very underrated brand in US and EU. Its very respected and appreciated in South East Asia.

·

Good, just a shame it’s Mido. French with terrible customer service

·

Mido flys waaaaay under the radar. Great brand with heritage under the Swatch group. This one is interesting and beautiful, unfortunately not my style. But I appreciate they aren’t copying other brands but re-introducing their own design!

French? It's a Swatch Group brand, founded in and headquartered in Switzerland.

·

Interesting, I'd really like to see in in person.

·

This has come up a few times recently and I have to say that I'm starting to like it. I don't like big date normally but I don't think this is oversized, and putting it at 12 makes it work.

I don’t think there’s even a proper AD in the Uk. Just some “outlet store”.

·

I mean I do like it but it doesn’t quite make me reach for the wallet. But it is really nice nonetheless

Awesome post! 🤩

Thank you for sharing this with us 🙌🏾

In Thailand Mido is on the same shelf with Rado, Tissot, Hamilton, Longines etc

Nope;

Mido - NOT Yema.

·

Mido is starting to become more available in Canada. A little under respected but have been around for a long time.

It’s big in south east Asia? That’s interesting. I guess I’m still new to watches so I haven’t been looking around while I was still there. I currently moved to Australia but I was from Malaysia

·

I will surely pick it up if I have the money 😅

Love Mido. Love the Watch...except not a fan of the Big Date at Noon.

There are other watches that place the date in the "12" position that get away with it better than the Big Date.

Like Nivada Grenchen's Chronoking...

Just can't get past that huge two window date at Noon on the Mido.

Here are some vintage 1970s Zodiacs that accomplish some of the same TV look for me...

I also think the Mido is trying a little bit too hard for the Nautilus look-alike contest.

Another cool TV-style watch is the recent microbrand Moels...

I quite like it and could totally see myself wearing it. But I’ve heard in the past that swatch group watches that use a big date function tend to have issues down the line. I wonder if it’s something that has been remedied.

·

I really like it. I wish it was just a couple mm smaller. Beautiful watch!

In Oz. From Shum's in Sydney who are a Mido AD. The prices went up a touch on July 1st but they also give a great price without any haggling.

Oh a fellow Aussie. Hello from Adelaide

Looks nice and decent quality. Rarely do I say this in an effort not to bash on a brand or watch, but this looks like every single other steel integrated watch produced right now rolled into one. There are heavy GO, Patek, and IWC design cues going on here.

It’s tough to have an original watch, there are only so many ways to skin a cat, but this feels cherry picked and it doesn’t stand on its own and will fade away and be forgotten.

To be fair, I like Mido and think they make a nice watch, also, I’m just so over this style watch. I don’t care if you are IWC, Christopher Ward, or Mido, stop already please, back to the drawing board.

I can see why you are frustrated for this case shape and design, but if I’m not wrong Mido did launch a sport watch before Patek in this case shape and the Big Date at 12 does make it really visually interesting compared to most other watches. Just my take on it

I love the big date and the bracelet. Wish it were a little thinner but this looks like a watch you really need to try on before making a final verdict.

I love the big date!

Maybe my frustration is less with Mido, but with the back and forth of who had a heritage design first…. I don’t care. I’m not a Rolex fan boy, but I’ll give them credit in that I’m over heritage designs or a manufacturer saying we had this in our catalog back when. I like that Rolex simply updates their lineup. You don’t see them doing reissues, they make changes to a sub with a new bezel and maxi case, lume surrounds and colors and so on. A sub today is a different watch than 40 years ago and they didn’t have to go back to the original and say here is what we based this new sub from.

I love it. Got it for under $1400AUD and the quality is as good as watches multiple times the price. Had it for about a month or so now and still get a kick out of wearing it.

Looks great!

·

It's not bad, but not a fan of square watches. Yes, all of them. If you gave me a Cartier for free I'd turn around and sell it to buy something else. 😬

·

Looks great, reminds me of my scurfa, Topside crew! Big Patel vibes all round

Interesting watch, and I do recall seeing it in a shop window once.

My overriding impression: just a little unrefined when it comes to the proportions on the dial; likewise, the overall case shape looks rather tubby/thicc, so not for me.

That said, I would hope that Miro start paying more attention to design details to draw in the right customer.

Also big in Latin America, what with Mido translating to 'I measure' in Spanish.

·

I bought the green dial version and I think it looks fantastic. So well proportioned and made. Mido definitely has a winner here.

Oh that’s a beauty. Ah a shame Mido isn’t a brand my store carries, would have got it on a heartbeat.
