One watch TYPE?

Many posts on one watch (brand/model/internals)

Well, I’m rather more curious about the one watch type, and why?

Others I’m thinking of

GMT, digital, dress, pilot

I prefer pilot/field/GADA style watches with a date. Think CW Dune/Sealander, Marathon steel Navigator, or Damasko DS30.

I own mostly divers with a date. I like other style watches. I prefer a watch with a screw down crown and a minimum 100 meters water resistance. Modern watch making tech allows for any watch over $50 to achieve this requirement. I also like a smidgen of AntiMagnetic quality, AR coating and either Stainless Steel or Titanium. Pilot and many GADA watches don't have the water rating or a screw down crown. Example : The Oris Big Crown. Screw down scrown and 50 meters water resistance... so spalsh resistance only. A great watch I won't buy. I don't dive, surf, or swim with every watch I own but I like them to go where I go with a watch on. Divers usually hit the requirements.

As many Pilot watches 😍.

I voted for other as i'm drawn to GMTs. As @TimeJunkie says, 100m WR and a screw down crown are desirable, and my #longines Zulu Time ticks all the boxes and could easily be my One watch. Tempted to use it for the #1wc coming up too.

In case of only one watch the complications would be the most important for me. Especially the calendar and chrono functions.

But also the price as I would weare for any situations...means it could be damaged. So it shouldn't be too expensive.

I'm thinking one of those:

Casio AE-1200

It's a perpetual calendar watch, Chronograph, GMT, with Alarms and Dual time zone. For 30 Euro.

Downside: Too sporty, doesn't fit for formal situations.

Or

Limes Pharo Chronograph with Full Calendar for less than 3,000 Euro.

Downside: Not cheap but at least more affordable than the alternatives.

I’ve got a thing for those mid-century ‘Explorers’ watches.

The most obvious example to most people is the Rolex 1016, but I’d include the Rolex 6084 and its Tudor sibling the 7909. And never forgot the inimitable Smiths A404.

Less vintage, the (again, obvious?) Rolex 16570, but also watches like the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date and even the Nomos Club campus, which I feel is a modern invocation of watches like the A404

GMT for me, I can track other timezones, time things in a basic fashion, tell the time. Perfect 😀

Diver, 3 hander NO DATE

Diver because I'm clumsy and like the robustness

& Legibility (over 50) No date because it's ugly , can't see it very well and only useful once per day to anyone with a functional memory. 😂

Very nice GMTs.

No real outrigh winner so far.

But it’s interesting seeing how form is important for some, while function the priority for others

Very nice GMTs.

Thanks!

A good looking Japanese diver not to big 39-42 mm with a screw down crown that can be easily dress up or down with a nice leather or rubber or strap. I think we sometimes forget how the strap can change the vibe of a watch look.

Divers makes it a good day to day watch because of the water resistance and it will pass the test of times and fashion trends better then other types of watches I think.

I have the orient kamasu in black in mind or the lorier neptune. Classic look. Affordable.

If you want something that will last very long there are some solar options and ad up a sapphire and you are good to go! (Seiko sne573)
