W&W 2024

So you’re telling me, out of all the watch brands we love and cherish, the biggest thing to come out of W&W 2024 was the Black Bay GMT rework? Don’t get me wrong, I have an OG Black Bay GMT. And I’ll probably sell it and upgrade to the new one. But this can’t be it. That and some Rolex’s that are out of my personal price range?

Is this just what my Instagram and YouTube algo is shoving down my throat? Were there better releases?

What do you guys think?

Nope, that’s it. 😞

·

Way out of my price range but JLC and Lange both had some serious heat there. Grand Seiko also had some nice ones.

·

Edit: As a collective whole, if we had interesting tastes then b̶r̶a̶n̶d̶s̶ Tudor would come out with more interesting designs.

·

I’ve been trying to look into Sinn and others what they’ve launched but not much can be found. I’m disappointed too. And it seems that all / most of the YouTubers I follow are promoting Tudor only. 😂

I just looked up GS as I was writing this and saw this gem. But the algo wasn’t showing me that. I had to dig.

Would they? Everybody seems to just play the hits.

·

They can’t rewrite the rule book every year. We will always have some years where there isn’t much change, just upgrades and variety.

·

Grand Seiko and Zenith had the best releases I've seen so far.

·

I usually go to the Watchadvisor channel for the real tasty stuff .

I would add that just like cars now people think of resale value and its easier to sell a neutral "boring" color

The Bulgari 1.7mm(🤯) is amazing! The box winds it and sets it, I believe!

This makes me think about how r/watches* will rip a SOTC poster for being boring while simultaneously recommending the same 10 watches to anyone who asks.

I love my collection but there is no doubt that it is full of common/normal/expected choices.

*this place is much friendlier!

Yeah that's what I'm saying. It's directly correlated to what the horde wants.

Imagine what Tudor and Rolex would look like if we all had Invicta tastes and Wall Street money.

·

For me it's the Bremont Terra Nova 38 field watch, & their rebranding in general.

The Tudor is just a bezel colour change 🤯

·

To me GS was the most exciting but maybe my algorithms are messy.

·

I do like the new Tudors…think they look great. But yea, another swing and miss by Rolex. I mean a solid gold sea dweller?? Rolex homaging Invicta.

·

This new Deep Sea is just what I needed. 👌

Not easy to read the time on it.

The Black Bay GMT is not the “best thing” to come out of W&W, but it just seems to be the one everyone on here is glomming onto because it might be the most affordable and semi-luxurious, along with the usual Rolex is boring, and the new Bremont-hating. There were over 50 brands participating, I’m sure there is something that you would like if you did a deeper dive.

·

Reflection of the watch market tbh…

·

The watch market is shrinking at the minute so the brands are being a bit reserved with there launches. Also with Dubai watch week now being a big event as well as W&W some reserve models back for that too

·

The BB 58 GMT, the Nomos colorways, new Fredrique Constant dress watches, and a new Mont Blanc diver is what was interesting and new as a collector I took away, and I had to look at the W&W website to look at the latter.

Outside of Tudor, really the rest of the discussed watches by influencers and media were pieces targeted at the very affluent - even by watch collector standards.

Green dial VC overseas were by far the best releases. Obviously very expensive but stunning works of art and the thing dreams are made of

I will trade my first born for a 222.

This is too accurate 😂

I don’t even have a kid, but I’d have one just to trade for a 222.

I thought the old Tudor GMT was a clunker

That Evo 9 GMT case is just amazing 😍

·

I think there are a lot of great releases out there in the watch world. But, of course, Rolex, Tudor and other big brands have more ability to show case their releases. That's great. But I'm definitely more interested in the smaller brands or microbrands in general as you can find something unique and well made for generally a lower price.

The JLC duometer, parmigiani fleurier, and moon phase from Laurent ferrier all looked amazing imo. That said most of us( myself included) will likely never have the money to spend 80 to 130k on a piece of fancy jewelry. The tudor is getting the most hype on YouTube because let’s be real it has the best chance of mass appeal at a still expensive as hell but far more “reasonable” $4500.
