What To Wear With A Blue Suit?

Hey all, just looking for a bit of advice. I am a groomsman in my cousin's wedding coming up, and am looking at wearing one of two watches. The suit will have no belt, but saddle brown leather shoes. My Panerai PAM 372 with a tan leather strap to match my shoes, or my Lorier Neptune with a leather strap or bracelet. Most signs point to the blue dial watch that fits nice under the cuff.

This is where a vintage gold watch on a leather strap hits the mark. (I may or may not say something similar for most non-athletic occasions.)

(The running joke is an Apple watch.)

Every bit of gold definitely helps. There's going to be a few heavy hitters there so I'm hoping to strike a conversation with people.

A dress watch. You wear a dress watch with a tan strap. You certainly do not wear a Panerai unless the wedding venue is the lost city of Atlantis.
If you can make the Lorier work without detracting from the suit, then fine it can be allowed, but dear God leave the Panerai at home.

My thoughts exactly!

Will there be people receptive to a wealth flex?

Only my cousins, I'm unsure about the rest of the wedding.

Go for the Lorier. Switch to a nice leather or suede strap if you want the dress watch feel but definitely not the Panerai unless you're wearing something like Varys wore in King's Landing where he can shove an arm through his sleeves.

Cheers on the suede, that sounds like a great idea!

You stay out of this! You‘d probably say Seiko anyway, and maybe a Chronograph, just to be awkward.

also, there’s around 40% of you who would wear a Panerai as a dress watch? What is happening?

I have a lovely gold Seiko Bellmatic that would stick out like a sore thumb...

Well, that would sit well with the crowd who want to see you strap a landmine to your wrist and talk only in Italian. Your public awaits… don’t let them down.

I could not let it pass.

Jews and Italians? Same company, different department. But I catch your drift. There will be pictures!

Will there be people crowd surfing in chairs?

Use the wedding as an excuse. Get one of these.

It doesn't actually scratch any itches, I think it's the guilloche they went with on the dial.

·

If that's the blue of the suit, I'd say it's comparatively casual compared to a navy suit, so technically you could go with either. I chose the Lorier because that Panerai's going to be annoying when your cuff keeps getting caught on it.

·

Neither.  Use this as an excuse to buy an exquisite dress watch.

Sadly I'm all watched out for a while now.

This. I actually like some of Panerai’s stuff but for your situation, the Lotier has my vote. I’d swap out the bracelet for a tan leather strap if you have one though…

This is where an inexpensive quartz dress watch shines. You will only wear it maybe twice a year, but it will help you out when less watch is more.

·

I think the panerai might be a bit chunky and overstated. I like a simple steel bracelet with a suit too. The Lorier wins, either leather or steel works.

·

This is the perfect reason to buy a dress watch!

Otherwise wear the Lorier on a brown strap that matches your shoes.

Thank you to all who voted and commented. I'll be getting a tan suede strap for the Lorier and keeping the Italian Stallion tucked away for the weekend. 😎
