Mt. Fuji

I haven’t posted in a while, but considering I have my GS on, and am in front of My. Fuji, I felt I needed to post :)

Not sure where your budget or general tastes lay, but I can tell you this. I have bought many watches, and a lot of them ended up being a regretful purchase a few months later. I own two spring drives, and neither of them have I regretted for a second.

I love most and can appreciate all types of wrist candy! My collection atm consists of an Oris AD, Tissot PRX Auto, Omega Speedmaster, a Rolex Batgirl, Rolex Submariner (ND) and the green OP. I've had various others that have been moved on eventually. Most of them enjoyed for a period.

The AD has offered me a slight discount on the GS. The crazy thing is, if it were Rolex I'd pull the trigger instantly! Mainly because of residual value. From what I can see, GS hold their own in the market if I do decide to move it on. I don't think I would, as the GS looks amazing!

How do you find the bracelet?

We’ll, I love the bracelet on mine. the I other one is on a leather strap, because most GS bracelets I dislike. I have not tried the white bitch on, so not sure if they have improved them compared to a few years ago. I was in the flagship store in Tokyo a few days ago… I could have tried one on then, but was worried I wouldn’t want to take it off :)

·

Wowee that is quite the photo

·

All the feelsssss. Thanks for sharing your experience, even through 2 photos i can feel the wind breeze, the fresh air, the view… and hear those god damn noisy crows

·

Nice pic!  Looks beautiful there right now.

I’ve climbed it a couple times.  despite being an easy trail to walk up it’s a legit mountain at ~12k feet.
It’s something to tick off if you ever visit in the warmer months

Dont forget to see the ghibli clock in Tokyo and if you need coaching i can help you find the GS studio in Shizuku Ishi

Really starting to feel the resemblance to the famous snow as seen from the Grand Seiko watch studio!

Welcome to Japan! The picture of your GS looks cool. I am happy to see Watch Crunch member visiting my country, wearing Made in Japan watch. I hope you enjoy the trip!

You have to go see the Glico Man, this is the icon of Osaka, and then you need to go get some takoyaki and burn the ever living crap out of the inside of your mouth.

Image

Takoyaki is made out of octopus and molten lava.  Then you can go to Osaka castle.  There are a lot of castles in Japan, a lot of them are not original.  They are made out of wood and wood likes to catch on fire.

Image

After the castle, or before, you can go to Tsutenkaku Tower.  Definitely not within walking distance from the castle, so maybe you should go to the tower after you go see the Glico Man sign.

Image

When you are done with the tower you can go check out the new holy trinity of watching making.  We are fortunate that in Osaka they put them all right next to eachother.

Image

And then when you are all done with Osaka, you can get on the bullet train and admire your Grand Seiko on the ride to your next destination, which in my opinion should be Kyoto.

The coolest part of the trip for me was on the way back to Tokyo. I was stopped at a train station and there was a kid on a train the next track over and he gave a thumbs up to my watch.  There is definitely something special about wearing Seiko and Grand Seiko in Japan.

Wow, thanks for all that information. Looks like you had a great time here! Kyoto is on the list :)

Thanks. I was thinking the other day, of the 250+ countries in the world, the only ones I can think of, where everything you ever buy comes from that one country, I think is only Japan, USA, China, and maybe South Korea. If I had to stick to one of those, it would be Japan.

Nice.  It looks like you hit up the most important parts of Osaka.  Now as you move onto Kyoto you have to make sure you go see the Yasaka Pagoda.

Image

To me, this street is the most magical place I have ever been to in the entire world.  It was so good, I had to go back the morning after and grab some more photos.

Image

Once you are done with Yasaka Pagoda you should go check out the Golden Pagoda (Kinkakugi Temple), it is iconic.

Image

Next up, once you are Pagoda'd out you can check out the Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine.  I must warn you though, there are a lot of steps and you better have good walking shoes if you want to attempt this.  This shrine has to have the most Tori Gates of any shrine in Japan.  You will basically walk through endless Tori Gates to get to the shrine.

Image

Finally, just so you know this is the watch I wore when I visited Kyoto.

Forgot this is a watch forum, so let me take a pic with a watch… Here is the garden restaurant, in Kobe, with some local tea, Kobe beef sandwich, and a Grand Seiko. Life is good!

We are off to Kyoto today.

Enjoy.  I think Kyoto is my favorite city in Japan.

Congrats on an epic trip. I’m looking forward to visiting next year perhaps and dream of buying a Grand Seiko while there. My son just moved there a couple weeks ago, he’s in the Navy and stationed at Yokosuka. We want to make a trip out of it in 2024 and visit.

·

We need more interactions like yours on WatchCrunch.....a good read....

This is the one you need for Kyoto!

yes, it’s a Ginza model, but it’s bricks and colors bring me to Gion and all the other beautiful old traditional street ways when I see it 😉
