Lorier Hydra Zulu

My first Lorier arrived today. This particular model caught my attention, as I wanted a watch with the Miyota true GMT in it, the price was undeniably attractive, and I liked the design. The design feels extremely original to me while still referencing the models Lorier mentioned on their site that they drew inspiration from. That’s a feat unto itself. I’m a big fan of the colorway and I was concerned the watch would seem too thick but it actually doesn’t and also wears pretty small, I’d say more like a 39 than a 41. The handwritten note that came with it is such a nice touch. I think Lorier found themselves a new customer for life.

Congratulations 🍾🎉🎊

Enjoy it in good health!

I agree 🙌. Also I’ve never experienced this on a watch, and I can’t photograph it, but in the dark the lume, dial color and crystal distortion makes the hour indecies look like they are floating. It’s a neat magic trick. Great watch, excited to see what Lorier will do next with the design language of this special edition.

Looking good dude! And welcome to the Lorier fan club....

If it hasn't already been noted, I'm also a fan for life lololol 😂.

Berty nice watch, if I didn't already have the grey variant I've picked this up, tho TBH, might have asked Lorier for a blank case back, I love engraving these.

That lume SLAPS!

I'm also hoping they release the rubber strap separate at some point, dig the look.

My Tryptich says hi...😉🤏🏻🤘🏻🤙🏻 Wear yours in good health.

The strap is a separate brand (Bonetto Cinturini) that they sourced, you can buy them here, and probably other places:

I really want a Lorier and have had my eyes on the Falcon 3, but I wish with all my wishes this came on a black PVD coated bracelet. How's the rubber?

·

Congrats! Absolutely stunning! 😍

Congrats! We’re going to need a lume shot 📷

The case is DLC, much better than PVD. I was pleasantly surprised to read that. Rubber really comfortable. I think a DLC bracelet was probably too difficult/expensive for them to produce, is my guess. Although I wouldn’t hate one, I agree. Price would be a couple hundred more though.

Congrats to your new and beautyfull Watch!

·

You said it...great combination of inspiration and original design!

·

I'm very much interested in this same watch, but in the steel version. I'm glad to hear that it wears smaller than the dimensions would suggest as that is something that has been holding me back from purchasing it.

·

The colour of the lume against the black case is very nice

·

Arnie and Sly would be proud 🤙

·

Congratulations on your purchase. 🍻

This really is the golden age of the GMT. Congrats! How's the overall built quality of your Lorier? I've admired them from afar but have never seen one IRL.

Very good, especially for the price point. Nothing sticks out to me as poorly done, if that makes sense. The price is really low relative to other brands offering the same stuff, which can’t be emphasized enough. Bulova devil diver gmt is double the price retail (can be found for about $900) for example. Same movement. I don’t know if the movement is regulated though, hope it is. I’ll have to wait a day to know its accuracy.

·

Very nice! Congratulations and good luck with the watch🤝looks terrific

·

Is the thickness noticeable? I had my eye on this but the thickness turned me off. But seeing it in photos now is giving me second thoughts…

I’m gonna say no. The case is 12.2 and crystal is 2.4. So it’s effectively 12.2.

Awesome! Enjoy it!

·

That’s over the top that they took the time to write you a note. That is how you win over fans. I will own a Lorier one day.

·

I was waiting for this watch to drop but I feel asleep and by the time I woke up, it was sold out. Now I have m name on the Waiting List for the next batch. What is your initial impression of this watch?

I’m trying to see if I really want a true GMT or not. What is your use case to need the true GMT?

·

Buying myself an Astra for Christmas I think this brand is just doing it right! Watch looks phenomenal! Cheers!

For me it shows the watch was made for a purpose not for a vogue gimmick.

I don't really need a GMT. I live in the UK and don't travel outside of the country often. But I'm a sucker for a complication, and I like to know it's done right.

There are too many GMTs at the moment that are GMT for GMT's sake. So you can say "look my watch has 4 hands and can track another time zone." I do respect the movements and watch brands that respect what the complication was made to do.

So you mean to say you feel the true gmt shows more skill to manufacture than a caller GMT and that’s the importance?

The reason I’m questioning this is because when I think about the actual benefit it seems a bit useless to me only unless you’re literally hopping countries within a week and want the convenience of changing the hour only.

Other wise one state travel or one timezone shift or even as the name states tracking one time zone seems more practical on a caller gmt unless I’m understanding wrong.

Yep, I'm completely over romanticising the complication! I just think it's a really clever idea.

But I stand by too many watch brands are using the caller GMT as a gimmick at the moment. And I think that's probably the main reason I favour the true GMT function.

What?! This thing (the strap is hideous) looks fucking amazing.
