Makes me think of the saddest movie I've ever watched:  Avengers Endgame.

The hero lost at the end of the movie!

Avengers: Endgame Theory – Why Thanos Won 14,000,604 Times and Lost That One Time - Animated Times

There are two aspects of the hero's plan that I disagree with:

  1. Random 50%???  Why would you choose to blip 50% randomly???
  2. Why only 50%?  The right number's gotta be more like 70% or 80%, right?

Its about time major brands started to offer NFTs with their watches, and that would help prevent resale of stolen property. Also Cali is out of control.

NFTs are silly.  The average Joe doesn't understand what an NFT is, how to access one, or anything beyond "Ooh...Shiny!  I want it!"  Issuing NFTs wouldn't do anything.

That’s terrible..

I think it is why, I bought the Submariner 14060 and run it on NATO so much, unless you get close and see it? You don't realize it is a Rolex. I wear my Sub as my daily watch! LOL.

That's a good lesson not to wear your wealth displayed in public very much. Probably a Daytona which is very recognizable. 60k in a fistfull that he should have just handed over and collected insurance on. Be as rich as you want but you still have to live among the thieves of the world and show caution. There are a lot of people that wear their fake copy and keep the real one safe.

Yeah I've heard that, guys will have the real deal in a safe, wear a fake. That sucks though. I'd just get a more non descript watch.

People get mugged and watches get stolen.

Only the Rolex thefts get any notice.

·

It is sad that you can't wear what you want everywhere (like a $60k watch to the grocery).

Part of the problem is how easy it is to sell stolen goods these days online and elsewhere (not just watches which is why we have so many professionally organized smash and grab robberies now).

As watch YouTuber Paul Thorpe keeps harping about, I wish Rolex would re-institute its stolen watch database to at least try to make the process of selling stolen watches harder or at least less lucrative (especially for one of the most valuable brands on the secondary market). https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/just-why-did-rolex-end-lost-stolen-register-service-general-thorpe/

I am sorry but that is not a good answer. There are other parts of the US/world where law and order still works and it is totally safe to shop and go about daily business without getting attacked by thugs. We either live in a free and open society or we live in a prison state. I refuse to live in a prison state, I grew up in one, and do not wish to return.

Yes that is a problem that is begging to be solved. Remember when online shopping, grub hub, uber etc was too complicated, today no one does it the 'old fashioned way'. Covid taught my 84 yr old father in law to use uber eats, and now.. that is the only way he eats :)

No one of the F1 Drivers, I believe it was Lando Norris, had a Richard Mille stolen from him in Europe. $750k watch.

I would have been on Team Thanos if he limited the snap to 50% of all sentient life, instead of all life.  Think of the puppies, people!

You bring up a really good point.  I'm 100% team Thanos if he had specified:

  1. Snap only affects humans and mosquitos
  2. 100% of mosquitos are immediately blipped
  3. 70% of humanity is blipped, but @HotWatchChick69 decides which 70% via a series of Zoom interviews

This alway happens when a culture fails to hold people accountable. It will get worse before it gets better.

Animals like that need eternal dirt nap therapy.

Any city in the world is not safe to walk the streets showing a 60k watch in plain view. Bad people live in every city and only the caught ones get punished. A little caution would have been prudent instead of waving 60k in their faces.

I disagree about NFTs as a means to prevent or mitigate theft of any luxury watches. I do agree that Cali is out of control. It's literally the Wild Wild West out there.

I’ve been stewing over this during lunch.

I feel very bad for the physical assault and injuries and hope that the couple are ok.  However, I don’t have any sympathy for the loss of the Rolex.  I will laugh twice as hard if it turns out the watch was uninsured.

For god’s sake, why the F would you wear a $60,000 watch to go grocery shopping?  Use some common sense, people!  If not for the risk of theft/mugging but also because you’re likely to ding that MF on the shopping cart or something.

·

I know this will sound politically charged, but it's very simple - if you don't have consequences for criminals who commit crimes, then crime will increase.

Often we hear people blame the victims for putting themselves in a situation that results in a crime. Now if this man and his wife were walking around drunk at 3 a.m. in the wrong part of town, even though the crime should never be accepted or condoned, you could say - maybe not the best idea. But when a couple gets pistol whipped in the parking lot of a grocery store in broad daylight for something like a watch, then we know that criminals no longer fear prosecution.

This violence was condoned during 2020 onwards by certain political parties and this is the resulting rotten fruit. Just consider the living situation in a city like Portland, Oregon nowadays, let alone New York City, and recognize you are a few votes away from it happening in your neighborhood.

·

I hear you on that one. Now a days you got to be street wise and savvy. I try not to go out to certain areas certain times. Be careful what you wear and how you wear out there. Thats best we can do. Thats how I grew up but now 2022 and beyond whole new ball game out there. Not easy living in the big major cities thats why I left. How sad to hear about somebody got robbed and worst they stole there watch as well.

·

Sucks. My wife and I were just there for grocery shopping after lunch across the street last weekend the day after.  One of the news reports from another station already called it out that the thrash/garbage are specifically targeting predominately Asian neighborhoods Temple City to now Rowland Heights.  I think owners of these shopping centers should start staffing ARMED security guards and put up prominent signs, "ARMED Security Guards on duty. Use of DEADLY FORCE expected to defend employees & patrons.".  Garbage is garbage and there are places for it. Trash can/dumpster.

I'm no world traveler, but my understanding is that the bulk of Asia is, for lack of a better word, civilized enough that there is almost no need for such fear there.

Note that they only mentioned the race of the victims. Does anyone think that is because such information on the attackers is lacking? If not, would anyone think this is more of an anomaly than a trend?

As to what interests me beyond that, the perp car was identified, the victims' car shown. Was that an older Honda Civic or what? Also, it wasn't me. I wasn't anywhere near the area and wouldn't dress that way.

No one will call it like it is, because facts are not truth to some people. Remember the famous quote of our current President "We choose truth over facts."

That's all you need to know.

I own a Rolex Sub, bought  new when I retired in 2014. When I bought it it was a five grand watch which I wore to tell the time, now it’s probably worth more than double on the market so it’s become a ten grand object which is too risky to flaunt about, in a society which knows a lot about the value of a Rolex much more than they did when I bought it.

the paradox is that if I wore it, you spend half the time explaining it’s real to people who assume it’s fake, and the other issue is that people who wear fakes are just as likely to get a bang on the head and relieved of it as if it were real.

That’s why my go to watch is a Doxa Sub these days. Most see a yellow watch and assume it’s crap.

You know I just bought mine, preowned 2005 Submariner 14060m no date. Well I wear it on a NATO because most people don't look twice at it. I think if someone wanted to steal mine? I'd give it the them with the caveat: Fine it's a fake $100 Sub! LOL. It's not fake I paid $9k for it, and do think about that a lot: I am wearing $9k+ on my wrist. I may sell it and go back to Tudor, etc.

Yes, unless you are super rich, the fun has definitely gone for normal income  Rolex owners, it’s just too risky wearing it, I only wear mine in a controlled environment now.

I wear mine as a daily.
