Do you work with other watch enthusiasts?

Just wondering if you work with other with whom you share this hobby thus have people you can talk watches with.

There used to be a sexagenarian that at least understood the concept, but now there's nobody older than their mid-50s (and no eccentric/anachronistic youngsters), so no.

·

Quite lucky in this regard , I work offshore in the Commercial Diving industry and watches are a thing.

·

I've worked in the jewellery trade for near a quarter century, and in all that time I think I've maybe worked with half a dozen people who I would consider a proper enthusiasts (i.e. not just a mono-brand fanboy/girl)

At the moment there is colleague I would describe as an enthusiast, but we don't really get on or talk much 😂

·

I work from home. Thank the Lord.

·

Used to have a watch buddy at work. Then he retired. Then I retired a few years later.

·

There's no shortage of watch enthusiasts at the office. The watches I saw today in our department were, Datejust 36 blue dial, Ballon Blue De Cartier, Explorer II Polar 16570, ladies Datejust 31 black dial, and BB58 black dial. Mind you there were only 14 people in today. 😅

i can talk about watches with some of my colleagues that i’m closer friends with, and that i know are also watch enthusiasts. i don’t generally go around talking about watches with folks because it can be kind of “show-off-y” to talk about it and seen as flagrantly flaunting what can be perceived as an expensive hobby. ultimately how one spends one’s money is nobody else’s business, but why invite such scrutiny and judgement unnecessarily.

that’s kind of the reason i joined WC, cuz it’s a safe space to talk about a hobby that might otherwise be a faux pas to talk about.

Smartwatches or if i'm lucky a cheap quartz. Saskatchewan is not a watch area. The stores just don't sell automatics either.

I used to but he left my company last month for an offer he couldn't refuse. Now I am surrounded again by Apple watches.

Vlad if you're on here with your Speedmaster, you're a madlad.

There is one guy at work that is "into watches." He has a few micros but lately has been rocking an apple watch. He will occasionally ask what I have on. I met a guy that works for one of our vendors at a trade show thats into watches. I have to call them fairly often so when I get him, he hits me with a wrist check before we talk business.

·

In my day job, no. In business, yes. Most of the people I work with think the Apple Watch Ultra is a luxury watch. To be fair, I was one of those people until about 8 months ago. That’s when a friend approached me with a red pill and a blue pill. Next thing you know I’m seeing just how far the rabbit goes down the hole. 😂

·

I do not personally know anyone outside of my jeweller that is into watches.

·

I work on my own in a vape shop, so zero colleagues, but I've got maybe a handful of customers who are into watches - I've told them about Watchcrunch and there's a couple on here (as well as my Mrs, who's into watches too)

·

My boss is into watches and has a few (mostly wears a Tissot T-Touch at the office), but he doesn’t get as deeply nerdy about it as I do.

·

One man I work with was saving for BB58 but then he decided to upgrade his car instead. He's the only one I work with who has any interest in watches. My wife has a passing interest in watches. Nobody else I know outside work is into watches.

I hope that is by choice

My project was shut down to cover the losses from full-scale invasion in my country and I was fired.

Yep. Since most of us work from home now, my company uses Slack for messaging. I created a "watch-talk" channel on our Slack a few months ago after chatting with a co-worker about watches. So far, we have 24 people in my little watch channel at work. There's not daily chatter in there, but several times a week maybe. They post pictures, discuss new acquisitions, etc. It's been fun! There were actually a few co-workers I've known for a while but didn't realize they were into watches until they joined "watch-talk".

Yo, this is awesome. You can also referral your colleagues to WC and introduce them to the discussion.)

And get a badge!

I am truly sorry to hear that. I hope your situation changes for the better soon.

Well at least you have this forum to talk watches and who know what the future will hold.

I feel like I'm on a desert island at work on this subject. The biggest discussion was a nurse asking, "How many watches do you have"?

That sucks

·

I know of two. Great guys, but their purchases have been curtailed by growing families. Other pieces I've seen tend to be ostentatious monsters and the wearers know nothing about watches...too funny!

·

A doctor I work with has a Seiko SKX007 and a Rolex Deep-Sea. I pointed this out and he seemed happy I did. I don’t think he’s an ‘enthusiast’ but he did sing the praises of how satisfying an SKX is to wear. Maybe he’s a budding enthusiast that just needs a little push…

You can always help him along

·

One colleague has a great collection (variety of iconic pieces from multiple brands) and some knowledge of watches. Another colleague has interest in watches (but maybe not quite as many pieces) and is saving up for a Rolex.

Otherwise, I am surrounded by Rolex and Apple watches.

·

My boss is a James Bond fan and sort of became an Omega fan by proxy. Then there’s coworkers that are Seiko enthusiasts and the occasional Rolex chaser

·

While we don't technically work together, my best friend and I work in the same organization. He has rediscovered his love of watches. Not enough to dive in crazy like I did, but he has a few affordable ones and now always wears a watch.

I'm in the watch enthusiast desert over here.

Most of my colleagues that are into watches fall into this same category
