Pitzmann 3. original enough or just a homage.

1st off I’m biased lol. This is my watch and I absolutely love it for what it is. Amazing microbrand, slim automatic high end Seiko chrono movement, with an amazing color way that I loved since I saw a Daytona platinum with the brown bezel. In my personal opinion it’s just different enough to be original. Aside from the dial color it has so many differences.

I’ll never understand how everyone copies Pagani and then charges exorbitant prices

Good looking watch!

Hmm. Original? Nah. Homage? Of what? Seiko Speedtimer? El Primero? You mentioned Daytona, it looks more like the other two I mentioned than a Daytona. Yeah, yeah I know the speedtimer is called a “Seikotona”.

Anyway it’s a nice watch, not saying it’s an original design but different enough to stand on its own.

A little too pricey for me, but it’s a great looking watch.

Love Pitzmann as a brand. The watch is beautiful! Technically their chronograph is a homage of an unobtainable watch. I call it fair game!

Is this basically a Korean brand with a name trying to make it sound European?

Almost like a guy named Hans Wilsdorf creating a brand called Rolex. How dare someone pick a name for their watch brand! Imagine an Australian named Jody creating a watch brand Erebus!!! named after Greek mythology. the horror!!!!

I’m really just wondering, I’ll check out their website though and find out for sure.

And funny you bring up Erebus. I was drawn to their new GADA watch but the name actually really turns me off. Kind of like how I can’t buy a Tudor Glamour despite liking the designs.

I just read the history of Rolex naming and seems like it was done cause it’s easy to pronounce and read internationally mostly, much like why VISA got its name.

Sorry I wasn’t trying to be rude. For some reason people harp on the name of this company and I don’t know why and I took that out on you. But you are correct it is a Korean company with a not so Korean sounding name and tbh I don’t know the history if any behind the name. As long as the name isn’t something crazy off of AliExpress I don’t mind too much lol.

No worries. I just tried doing some diggging. I think they’re kinda secretive about it or just don’t comment on it. I’m wondering because for smaller brands I do want to feel more connected to the story of it because they do lack the branding/legacy of the big players, so if there’s nothing on the story of the company I just feel in the dark.

A company in the Philippines made a watch brand called Argos, which is of course Greek. While I would appreciate if they represented the country a little, I respect their explanation of wanting it to evoke the feeling from the story of Argos and not have the brand tied down to the country. Small explanation but a lot better than just no response which is what seems to be the case for others who have tried to ask Pitzmann directly on social media or customer service.

Another thing is you have brands like San Martin which are more than likely using that random name to sound more prestigious. But, the watches feel a little less alive or personal and more just commodities without any story.

Erebus, Im sure Jody had expalained the name and he’s cool, I just don’t like how it sounds because it reminds me of the word Estrus 😭😅.

Well now I will never think of Erebus the same way again 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Please, Jody is obviously Scottish originally 😂 Anyway, the other examples you mentioned are kinda different because Rolex is an entirely made up word and I don’t think Jody is trying for his brand to sound like it’s from Greece. But an Asian brand with a German name does remind one of the AliExpress brands who do the same.

·

It depends how you define homage... But let's not open that can of worms 🙃

·

I have been wondering how the company came to choose that name too, and obviously I'm not the only one wondering about it.

And it would be interesting to know some background history how the brand was created or who the humans behind it are.

Strangely enough Pitzmann does not seem to want to provide any of that information at all. I'd say that's a bit weird especially for a microbrand. Their watches are great though but the lack of transparency is a bummer for me.

·

It's a decent homage with enough originality.

My only point was if we are going to ask the question, let’s look at all brands. I absolutely am 100% fan of Jody and his new brand. (Pre-ordered a Malachite Ascent!). And it wasn’t to harp on Jody or Rolex in any way. And I totally dropped the ball on Jody being originally from Scotland lol. I mean the dude even got married in a Kilt!

If it helps it’s also the name of the highest peak on Antarctica and closer to Australia than Greece 😊

I don’t mind it either way. I think they just picked it because they thought it sounds cool.
