The best inexpensive watch of all time

Forgive me for not being so familiar with GShock reference numbers.  For me the Solar #casio gshock square is the best inexpensive watch of all time.

In my opinion, this particular solar gshock square is the best inexpensive watch of all time.  I’ve had some people who aren’t into watches ask me before about buying a a good watch for $100 or below.  I always recommend this particular Gshock the GW5600E-1 - it’s not expensive at all but for me it combines a whole lot of cool factor for a very affordable price.

For me there is a difference between “cheap” and “inexpensive” cheap for me refers to poorly built watches with low quality materials. Fashion watches like Michael Kors, Daniel Wellington & MVMT don’t stand a chance against a GShock.

I had a discussion with a fellow watch geek about “level of enjoyment” and being in this watch hobby for a long time, I’ve learned how important and impactful “level of enjoyment“ is.  Everytime I put this #casio gshock GW5600E-1 (what a mouthful of a reference number, hahaha) I have a giant smile on my face.  For me it brings with it a certain level of cool and it makes me feel like a navy seal that can save the world.  Also, if someone does rob me for my watch, I’d gladly hand this over and order a new one on Amazon 😂

What are some of your favorite inexpensive watches?

I doubt anybodys going to argue with you on this one, that’s a great watch. I would also recommend the Seiko 5 for being relatively cheap and really good for that price. I’ve got some issues with Seiko in general, but I think the 5 is still pretty cool.

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment, I think most of your issues with Seiko are with quality control and inaccurate movements at the entry level? Not to mention most of the time their price not reflecting their quality control?  I feel your pain.  My blue willard is great, it’s bezel and chapter ring are aligned, the movement is great, in the 6 months I’ve owned it it runs +3-5 seconds per day.  My Samurai on the other hand…. Well, the bezel and chapter ring are badly misaligned so I’ve dubbed it my beater mechanical watch so now that it’s scratched up, I don’t mind the misalignment 🤣

There’s that, but my issues are more about how they’re doing business.  To me there are just too many models and they don’t have names to keep them straight. All those reference numbers for watches that look 99% the same. And I feel like they’re upping prices without improving quality.  Also, their bracelets suck.

I personally prefer the Timex Expedition/Atlantis, as the thinner case more than makes up for the lack of solar in my mind.

I'm also a fan of the Timex Ironman series, but less so than the Expedition.

I hear you on the thickness but for me solar is a big plus and I would give up a little case thickness to have a solar watch.  I love both the expedition and Ironman but the fact that they don’t have a solar version is what’s stopping me from getting one

Not forgetting the colourful Casio squares. They come in a considerable range of colours. They are mostly under £30.  Great watches if you are feeling extrovert. They are much more solid than they look.

great watch!  You can never go wrong with a gshock square 👍🏼💪🏼

I'm a big Casio and Timex fan and you can't argue value for money there! Likewise the Seiko 5 ( and Citizen Eagle 7 even more so) but I think any post on this subject should include an honourable mention to Vostok? Tremendous robust timepieces with history a plenty for not much money at all!?

How about the Seiko SKX?  Mine gets more wrist time than anything else in my collection and it is an absolute tank.  Love it!

The SKX is a fine choice, my personal definition of inexpensive is $100 & below but I agree with you on this, I don’t have an SKX in my collection but it is a legend in the affordable watch world, & definitely deserves to be a legend 💪🏼

yes, I forgot about vostok, but my definition of inexpensive is $100 or below.  I’m not too familiar with Vostok prices but yes Vostok is a great option as well

My two vostoks were about fifty quid each new so definitely budget friendly! Prices may have crept up a bit since the Russians invaded Ukraine though.
