Becoming a professional watchmaker

This is my calling. I’m so fed up with the automotive industry and have been looking for an out for years. I will become a watchmaker. I have always been fascinated with micro mechanics, I’ve learned I had watch and clock makers in my family, I live close to Lititz, one of the best schools available. I will do this.

It’s not easy though, it has been somewhat of a challenge to find the information( Lititz Watch Technicums website is down, and they have not returned calls or emails 🥺) and I have read some discouraging things, but if the need truly is this great, there must be a way. I am hoping that Lititz returns my inquiries, or that I will find an apprenticeship, or at the very least get my CW21 from AWCI.

I have the support of family, I have spoken with Jason at Roldorf after hearing him on the Grey NATO, I have taken some other steps to better prepare myself as well. One way or another, I will make this happen.

Idk what expecting posting this, but I just needed to vent I guess. I figured some of you hear may get it lol.

I haven’t been this excited and motivated by an idea in a long time, the futures bright.

Edit: Well I just received an email stating Lititz is closing summer of 2025. That is unfortunate.

If the school near you doesn’t respond, check with the Watch Technology Institute in Seattle. Rolex and Ben Bridge sponsored. 100% job placement. Opportunity to work in the industry while studying.

One of the instructors worked for me many years ago. Highly competitive to get in. Totally worth it.

Yep, that is on my list. There is also a school in New York funded by Patek, with stipend. I do have some options. I just need to get some things taken care of on my end, educate and practice as I go, and never give up. Cheers!

Looked into this as well. Very expensive unfortunately esp for international student 😖

Finally took the plunge on some oiling supplies, luming, and a mainspring winder, and also found a copy of Horology by JE Haswell at a very good price.
