A Dilemma for Watch Lovers

One of the joys of being a watchlover and a watch collector is waking up each morning and deciding what watch will you wear today - Of course there are some watches in our watch boxes that get more wrist time than the others - but most of the times we try to be fair to them - BUT every now and then a watch comes along that is so perfect, such a joy to wear that it feels unnecessary to let it be in a watch box and wear something else - Now we all know this is called a 'honeymoon period' for the new watches we buy but I think most of us will agree that after a certain point in time we reach a stage where we know what truly is "Perfect" and what is not and it just feels RIGHT!!

My question is how do you deal with that - do you stop wearing your other watches for a long time and keep feeling guilty of being attached to one like I am feeling for this Omega No Time to Die model which is perfect in true sense of the word - Or do you still keep giving wrist time to others while secretly feeling that pull towards your one true love??? Its a good problem to have I agree - but problem nonetheless 🙌🤣

I do it in a total randomly way, sometimes I wear a watch for 15 days, than another for a week, there are a few I only wear once a year and so on. Sometimes I just regret having bought a couple I don't care so much and maybe shouldn't have , that's the reason I'm trying not buying watches anymore, I have about 10 ,I should stop already.

Thats a good way - this way I think one can feel that satisfaction of having enough time with a watch and still rotate

·

Personally, i try to wear all my watches at least sometimes (or else my On My Wrist statistics start to look rather boring), but I love wearing my best watch most of the time.

·

When I purchase a new watch, I tend to wear it for 2 days and then I put it in a box for a month. I don’t want the honeymoon period. I treat all my watches equally.

·

I would say that for me it’s just a feeling of what I wake up and want to wear. Sometimes I intentionally try to mix it up just for the sake of variety, but again, that’s just because I feel that way in the moment. I don’t think there’s any logic to it. I largely wear my favourite most of the time without any guilt.

·

Don’t over think this, wear what you want when you want.

·

I make a conscious effort to wear a different watch each day, but when working from home, I wear a rotation of 3-4 throughout the day. I have a nice little tray now for my daily selection.

Image

Reason being, I want to wear my 2 dive watches all the time, but also want to enjoy my other watches too.

I also break that down into individual duties. I wear Quartz while working to avoid magnetism 🧲, wear my automatic divers on walks to charge them up, G-Shocks around puppy or outdoor activities ect.

·

Tough question.... I guess I do a bit of both. Enjoy the honeymoon of new picks and even forgotten pieces of the collection that were rediscovered and, once gone through that, try to share the wrist with the other watches of the collection.

That said, I would be hard pressed to maintain this with something like your NTTD in the collection...

Beautiful watch!

those are all great tips - and love the thought of wearing quartz to avoid magnetic disruption at work - thanks

thanks - yes - that is a dilemma indeed - but i try the same - to wear other ones too especially the ones close to my heart

That NTTD is such a great watch! That said, even if it felt like the perfect watch to me I would still change things up. I pursued a limited edition Tag Aquaracer and after I found it I wore it nonstop for about a week and then the need to wear the other watches in my collection crept back in. Yeah, the honeymoon period only lasted a week! For me, the only way I'd be able to wear one watch exclusively would be if it's the only watch I have.

Enjoy all of your watches and try not to feel guilty about loving one more than the others.

·

Interesting debate... in my opinion the good thing about having a diverse collection of watches is that, from time to time, you discover that model that has been waiting for its turn in the box for a while and you start to wear it for 4 or 5 days (as if you will just buy it).

I know what u mean - my problem is that i have 42 and among them atleast 20 are my absolute favorites

·

I only wear those I really want to wear...I am not going to force myself to give each watch equal wrist time.... they are just objects, not kids or pets with feelings.... So I just sell those who I rarely wear anymore.... better to get some cash for them and let somebody else enjoy them

·

I wear mine ,on normal day, in rotation. If i find i am not wearing a piece I sell it. I have been on a big selling spree this spring..now I miss them..LOL

·

Absolutely beautiful piece 👌I’ve pretty much sworn off homages, but every once in a while I’m so tempted to pickup a NTTD lookalike.

Thats a bold move - All?

go for it - it will give you a good feel for how it is on your wrist

Wear it until you want to put it away. Then wear your other watches until you want to wear it again. I use the WatcheePro app to keep track of my wear rates. It has an option to randomly select a watch to wear. It’s kind of fun! Also, this NTTD watch is fire 🔥!

As much as I am guilty of fretting over the same problem, it can be revealing to see it laid out by someone else. Aren’t we all a bit silly? 🤔😉

Yes, I typically wear different watches daily. But also spend a few consecutive days to honeymoon with new ones. And have done a few “One Week, One Watch” events just to see what happens. I’ve found one does discover some features or details with more extended wear. Also done some <watch type> weeks; chrono, diver, quartz, etc. I’ve even changed into a comfortable evening watch after work (a la Mister Rodger’s putting on the zip-up cardigan when he came home.)

Could anyone even be so shallow as to post one watch on WRUW then change their mind and wear something else that day? Asking for a friend… 😁

Bottom Line: we’re all playing a game where we get to make up and play by our own rules. Or not. 🤝

No dilemma for me when it comes to the end of the honeymoon period. The watch gets relegated to box B, where it sits until I get the enthusiasm for preparing it for Chrono or eBay. If the watch is lucky by the time I have mustered up the energy & enthusiasm to do so, my brain has gone all nostalgic & suddenly the watch gets promoted to box A again.

Otherwise it's a brutal & swift cheerio & on to the next love of my life.

U must be the Casanova of the watch world

I’ll take any tenuous link to Casanova going, thank you 😃 The reality is that my love of watches has brought out the sociopath within.

·

I’m generally a daily switcher. However, my top three get nearly equal wrist time. In fact I use an app to track it (a problem I know, LOL). The others in my collection are worn very infrequently.

·

Yep, a first world problem for all us watch addicts. I in the end up was wearing only two watches regularly so decided to prune the collection. Now have 2 from the original 12 and am much happier. The two watches some how mean more to me now. Less for me is defintley better.
