Dilemma: Omega Ultra Deep Summer Blue

Had my name down for this watch since it launched and not had the call as yet. Passed on it at Geneva airport in December due to import tax but yesterday it appeared in the window of another Boutique in my UK city. Here is the dilemma, I can afford this watch on the 4 years interest free no problem and it's the watch I most desire presently but it would mean no watches for 4 years and I am enjoying more affordable watches presently. My heart says go for it but my head says don't be stupid.

Absolutely not

Never 👏👏 buy 👏👏 a 👏👏 luxury 👏👏 toy 👏👏 on 👏👏 credit 👏👏

IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD THE WATCH IN COLD HARD CASH YOU CAN'T AFFORD THE WATCH PERIOD

going into debt for a watch is grade AAA stupidity

·

Do it, it should last you a lifetime and you'd be surprised how you always end up finding the money when something affordable comes up

·

Id say no. It's an awesome watch, the ultimate diver imho, and it'll outlast us, but I wouldn't go into debt for anything, car ,bike, watch- whatever.

Save up! If you really want it save up in those four years. It took me from 2014 2020 to get my Omega Grail and it means more to me because I had to wait. It's far far more valued now because I didn't get that instant gratification but had to work for it.

First thing is stop buying cheap watches, you'll loose interest in them and be left with depreciation to contend with when you inevitably come to sell them....

It's an awesome watch 😍

Good luck with your decision 👍🏻

·

I'd say save up for the watch they stole inspiration from 🤣😂hope there giving grand seiko a cut for the dial, only jokes my friend its a nice watch looks like a GS,I've financed a watch before didn't want it by the time I'd paid for it,if your going to keep it I would go for it,all good for people that can afford to walk in an ad and buy full retail and walk out not broke to say don't go in debt, just make sure it's the one or play the waiting game hope it goes down in price on the secondary market 👍

I’m not anti-0% finance, but only when you’re comfortable enough to cash it out anyway.

Ps wouldn't do unless 0% interest 👍

Ps wouldn't do unless 0% interest 👍

Technically 0% interest is a perfect way to buy, all the cost is on the supplier of the credit and given how prices for watches have gone in recent years that watch could be £1k-£2k dearer in four years time. Meanwhile you enjoy the benefit of a fixed, 'free' loan for four years which you won't even notice by the time you've had an annual pay rise or 2.

Go buy it before someone else does 😉

I will occasionally buy a watch on a 0% interest plan but only from ads or sellers who categorically cannot offer me any sort of courtesy discount. My most recent purchase is expensive( for me) after casual chat with the Mrs she wants to just buy the watch for me for all the missed special occasions during our decades together. I can pay easily myself and prefer to hold a grudge against her for missing my birthdays etcetera haha but it is a game for us. The sa who is the boutique director agrees to order a few expensive OEM croco straps as an incentive for me to buy the watch. It is 30 months plan which I will allow to run for the first year before paying off the account. The cost of the watch does not really impact my financial planning but nevertheless for me to use during the negotiated period. Critics will say that I am buying a watch on credit actually I am not but since I prefer buying new from a trusted seller who has been in business for a very long time, the no interest plan and mini perks is perhaps equal to a small discount from some other seller.

·

Nope, never on credit even if no interest. Four years... I couldn't last 4 months without a new watch! Get the cheaper one instead

If it’s something I really want I would do it but, you don’t really seem to sure about it so I think you should hold off on it.

·

Id say leave it. Theres a few high end watches i want but cant afford. So i buy watches i can, i really enjoy it too,,im quite surprised at how my tastes have changed too. Do what you feel is right. The fact your posting your dilemma says to me you know you shouldn't, but maybe people on here would give you permission 🤣.

You know what's right 😉

GS.... really are just better 🤣

Honestly cant see past them. I have a soft spot for Omega's though...what a choice that would be 😭

·

For me, from a financial perspective I think interest free installments is great, on the basis that I can afford to pay it off in full at any point of time during the tenor. Money saved during instalment can be used elsewhere.

I wouldn’t finance a watch. However, maybe look into consolidating some of your watches into this Omega. Check out reputable grey market and see if they would trade some of your current collection in on this. That is how i got a Rolex Pepsi (My grail)

·

I would not use interest free credit on a luxury watch. Christopher Ward I do because it's 12 months in PayPal and they are good value for money. But something like this will lose value.

And getting interest free credit means you can't get discount on the actual watch. These summer blue models are not rare they will keep being produced you will be able to get them at discount. Be it new or second hand.

The only watch I'd consider credit on is one I know where it'll either go up in value or keep its value like a steel sports Rolex.

·

4 years is a long time to commit.

·

IMO you should never finance a watch. I won't buy one unless I have the funds for it. But that's just me (and Lotsa others too)

You do realise just how big the SuperDeep is, I hope. 18mm+ thick is way too much for me. I forget the dial diameter, but it isn't petite by any means. The size is the only thing that keeps me from saving up for one.

·

I'd say just save up. You'll appreciate the watch more. Remember to make sure it's insured too, can you imagine it being stolen but still having to pay for it for four years 😭

This, in addition to the fact that in 12-18 months you may find a perfectly good preowned model for $2k off retail. 🤙

Yes I am comfortable with it's size / width as would not be a daily.

·

Get it it looks bloody amazing and I’m not an omega fan, you’ll buy watches that will drop in value in the 4 years that monster won’t 👌

·

It’s not necessary. It’s a luxury. And to go on credit for a luxury item is something I personally will never do. 4 years is a long time too.

Yes life is short. So enjoy those four years, not stuck with only one watch that you may change your mind about one day.

I’m afraid I completely agree with this. Especially for a non necessary luxury item

·

Thanks for everyone's advice. Decided to sleep on it for a week then see how I feel.
