My swatch experience today (rant)

This may make me sound like a dummy, but I have no one else to rant to.

I don’t have a swatch store near me and I happened to be in Vegas today with nothing to do this morning. So, I hopped over to the Swatch store at NYNY casino and waited in line inside the casino at the store entrance with a bunch of other people for the new Neptune release.

Unbeknownst to us, there was actually a line outside in the 90 degree heat that was the “real line.” It didn’t even occur to me that they had an entrance on the street side. Apparently people actually still camp out overnight for these watches.

There was no sign inside at the casino side Swatch entrance telling anyone that the line was outside. No swatch employees came over at any point to direct us to the correct line. Store was supposed to open at 9am.

At 9:15am I started to wonder what was up and I went outside, only to realize that there was a much larger line and I had wasted my morning. I just left without the watch because I was so frustrated by the whole experience.

From what I’m told, they probably had enough for everyone in line, but why do they continue to make it so difficult to buy a plastic watch.

I will not be doing that again. I’d come back another day but you can literally buy them today ONLY because of the moon cycle 🤯

you would think that a staff member would come out and at least let you know... sheesh!

They’ve done so many of these releases at this point that they just assume everyone knows the procedure

They know what they're doing, mate, making an artificial scarcity

·

They are going to let the customers figure it out...crazy. No line management, number system, etc. No that hard.

·

I lined up today for 1 hour. Then a lady came out and said they only had 25 watches. We left the queue.

Worst waste of time ever.

I was in Biel (Swatch HQ) in Switzerland, went at 09.00 am, short q, no hype here lol

Looks great! Wish I had your luck 😂

Frustrating for sure, but you unintentionally avoided picking up overpriced, pure hype-garbagio. You’ll be thanking yourself once the sting goes away.

Sad to hear man - very unfortunate that no sign was posted in the very least. You have to imagine with all the launches that they know people were bound to line up at the wrong entrance... as I doubt this is a first.

I am in no position to tell someone how to spend their time and money, but hearing stories like this just makes me sad. I don't think I could be compelled to wait in line to buy something for myself these days, but maybe if it was a gift for someone else and I didn't want to pay (or could afford) the markups. Last time I lined up something like this for myself was 10 years ago at the launch of the original Xbox One as I refused to pay the insane markups. Funny enough, I didn't even like video games that much but had a healthy Bluray collection and thought the Kinect would bring a whole new dynamic to controlling my entertainment system. Looking back now I can only chuckle at how absolutely wrong I was and the fact I don't own a single bluray today.

I like this blue watch for the actual object it is but hate what the MoonSwatch has come to represent. What (I think) was originally meant to be fun release intended to get folks excited about watches has just become a sad reality of combatting flippers to the front of the line and depressing stories of leaving empty handed after countless hours wasted. Even worse is that you beat the odds and you want to share your excitement/enthusiasm for actually walking out with the watch you wanted... there always seem that person on here (or other places) who is ready to yuck on your yum and you're left defending yourself.

Well, if you go back, I hope you get a rare Seattle cloudy day in Vegas and end up snagging the new Neptune. Good luck man! 👍

You really think the Swatch Group or its retail drones would give a shit about customer service?

·

Amsterdam earlier this month - door open, 3-5 people barely in the swatch boutique - walk in and buy what you want... including the new square bioceramic what if collection )))

·

I’ve not actually seen one of these things. From what I can see from the internet they are not serious watches. They are toys. So the whole thing reminds me of the cabbage patch dolls that people waited on line for back in the 70s.

·

Save some more and invest in a good one.. plastic moonswatch is a good entry Watch.. but if you are already into watches it’s just a overpriced quartz plastic watch.. you are better off with a Casio Gshock

I have plenty of nicer watches, it’s ok to also like a fun colorful quartz every now and then

In San Francisco I walked past the line around 1pm and it was maybe 20 people. The newspaper reported that earlier it was about a hundred strong.

I like my moonswatch but I’m good on one, I don’t need a second one. I can’t do that line waiting business, not for that.

I had a bad experience today too. Happened to have some time to spare and I work a 10 min walk from a local Swatch store. Lined up at 9am, 5th in line. 10am hits, they open. They tell us they don't have any of the gold ones, they all went to the other store in town, which would be a 30 min drive away (I take the train to work). What a waste of time. I asked why they had the gold ones last time, they said that was last time and they don't know when they get them. What a stupid business model.

Went to Geneva and Interlacken Switzerland a month ago and got our pick of 10 of the 11 moonswatches. Even picked up a Neptune when the sales lady pulled me aside and offered it when I picked up the moon for my wife and an extra Earth for a friend. The only one they didn’t have between the 3-4 stores I visited was the gold moon. Switzerland has plenty.

Guess I have an excuse to travel to Europe 😎

You did yourself a favour… wax on wax off

I was in Vegas as welll went to fashion mall no line .. picked 1 up. I thought moonswatch died down already. But I won’t line up for it. Moonswatch scratches faster than Timex q

·

I feel for you, so frustrating that they only sell at certain outlets. I live in the centre of England and the only 2 stores that sell them are in London & Edinburgh 🥲

I had no idea they even had one at that mall 🤦🏼‍♂️

Blue moon you saw me standing alone Without a dream in my heart Without a love of my own😂

·

Because you keep joining the line. I recently got the only model I wanted, the Mission to the Moon. I visited many times at random and eventually managed to get one. I wouldn’t ever join a line for one.

Literally the first time I ever waited in line and I didn’t even stay, I left lol. Plus they won’t sell these moonshine models any other day, they follow the moon cycle for releases
