New Islander drops March 5th??

Is anyone else STUPID EXCITED for the new Islander next week????? I CAN'T SLEEP!!!!! (I'm glad you can't line up for this because I'd be camping out and exposing my weirdness for the world to see and I need to keep that watch weirdness under wraps!!!) (also, I've never posted before so, roast me gently if I screwed something up)

Looks funky, I bet it’ll sell (everything from Marc sells there days). Imma cool it with #islander as I just bought my 5th 😅(and love all 5 esp the GMT ones).

Then I’ll post my 6th one in July or something 🤣

yes! You know yourself all too well!! I guess this model is going to come out in 5 different color ways and I'm super curious as to what they will be! On the IslanderWatch instagram page they are showing a black/orange and this blue/white. I'm hoping they post a new colorway today and tomorrow and Monday. But, who knows, they definitely didn't ask me for launch marketing advice! They are way too smart to listen to me! 😂😂😭

The vertical date is pretty unique and cool

Yeah I got a little nuts when I saw the black and orange one they teased the other day. I can't wait to see the other colorways!

I've got a crazy amount to learn. But, I've never seen a vertical day/date stack at 6 o'clock like that. Have you seen it before? (my assumption is that it can't be the actual first but, I'm open to the possibility that it could be?) I just don't know.

Nice, great colors!

It's gorgeous for sure! I'm assuming you are not interest in the Port Jeff GMT? I mean, I get it, it's about $160.00 more for an additional function that may not be of use to you. I was just curious 😀

It's not the money, it's the hands and the increased complexity of the movement.

Short answer, no, not an actual first.

That Sinn is such a gorgeous watch!

Was Sinn the VERY first to stack then? I haven’t found any others…..

I have no idea, I don’t really track this stuff but I knew Sinn had made one. As to whether it was first, or whether other makers have done it too, again, no idea?

I've seen a vertical day/date on some quartz Zodiac Seawolf

Image

I considered frankenwatching one with an old dial, but I couldn't find a day date wheel for an automatic that was vertical .

Congrats on your new Islander!! Which one did you go with?? 😀

I got the Upper Brookville with the coral linen dial!

I got the Upper Brookville with the coral linen dial!

That coral linen looks so textured and sophisticated! Nice choice!! And it's got that high beat Miyota movement. I don't fully understand it, but I think it's pretty awesome! 🙂

I like the day/date window.

Numerous stacked dates starting in the 1960s. Both Seiko and Citizen used the stacked day/date frequently in the early 1970s.

My guess is Marc is drawing from the Seiko catalogue on this one.

Some classic bullhead chronographs with stacked day/date…

Here is one from Citizen from the 1970s…

Image

Here is a 1970s Seiko Bullhead…apologies for the time blocking the day but you can see it underneath…

Image

So definitely nothing new…but cool that Marc is producing some
