Crap, guess I'll need to get a Tudor ๐Ÿค”

Today I heard the announcements: Tudor pro cycling team, Swiss based and led by the longtime hero of cycling: the extremely Swiss Fabian Cancellara.

So far I've not ever been overly drawn to Tudor. Finding them mostly too simple and blocky looking. I like the black ceramic, but I need a date. I like the Pelagos 39 ...but it needs a date for my wrist.

But seeing the brand plastered all over cycling events is going to gradually burrow it into my hindbrain.

And also just announced, Tudor: Official Timing sponsor of the Giro D'Italia. Giro is my favorite Grand Tour and I think the one most renowned for it's beauty and style.

Image

The Born to Dare works in this case; being the primary of a cycling team is a ballsy move. Wonder if Rolex infinite cash is communal with Tudors funds on this.

They are making a one off chrono just for the cycling team.

Hoping the new Pro team and Tudor collab will bring with it some gorgeous and daring new watches ๐Ÿคž. Something that looks like it fits at the Giro or on a pros wrist will likely be on mine as well.

and now... how do I get a GS sponsorship for my raggedy ass club: ๐Ÿค” ๐Ÿ˜‚

I'll bet that Tudor team gets in trouble for performance enhancing drugs and for tampering with the official timers. A GS sponsorship would be sweet but your team will have to learn to ride Kerin and travel to Japan.

ยท

What you need is a group your in, that shares your love of a certain thing(not bikes) that has influence in the world of the things you love that could provide let's say a two word name for the team and a snazzy two letter logo and provide you with the best analogue timing devices from the best manufacturers in the world that will make you the envy of all your competitors. Anyway it's early in the morning and my brain is mush, so any ideas for a sponsor my fellow watch crunchers would be gratefully received.

ยท

You know, the Black Bay Chronos are finally falling out of the hype cycle so you could always get a very close lookalike to this special edition.

But if you ask me? Get the reverse panda two tone.

Be a fancy man.

You know who's still my hero? Lance Armstrong.

After actually understanding what EPO does, and how it simply enables you to cause yourself more pain, I admire him even more than before.

I think you should get a US Postal watch!

ARG! - no, no, no and no!

Simply put: on EPO you compete at the same lactate level (discomfort level) as before, but now that same lactate level has 50 watts more power. And you recover better to race or train hard again tomorrow.

..โ€™more painโ€™ is total and complete BS from a dopers (Hamilton in that case) self justification handbook.

Iโ€™ve read every book mentioned in the article. Epsteinโ€™s Sports gene is a great one Iโ€™d recommend to anyone. My degree is in human physiology and I work in field of vascular surgery and blood. And with racing as a hobby I bury myself in this topic.

Me on drugs could go pro. Me as plain old me is a high level amateur athlete.

Itโ€™s a nuclear level cheat. People who ok with Lance are ok with rampant game changing cheating at sports. Iโ€™m not.

Iโ€™ve raced in 3 worlds level masters Triathlons and got 6th, 6th and 13th. Iโ€™d give my right thumb to podium.

And Doping is pretty bad at high level amateur sport.

If someone who doped beat me I would garrotte them with joy. Failing that, a lifetime ban.

Gladwell is a favorite writer of mine and he loves to do running races at a high level. Ask him if heโ€™s ok with getting knocked off a podium by a few dudes on EPO - I know heโ€™s not.

Love ya buddy but we differ 100% on this.

ยท

Is Cancellara still going to race or is he just managing the team. It's like no one retires nowadays. I haven't watched any races lately. I switched to streaming and won't pay for app just for TLF. Though I loved watching. The tour and other races aren't on the the same streaming app from what I can tell. I do keep up with Sagan on IG.

Yes! I want one too...๐Ÿ˜œ

Man, I have never seen you this worked up about anything!!!

Okay, okay, okay... I promise to forever condemn Armstrong to the 4th Ring of Hell, described thusly...

https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/articles/a-visitors-guide-to-dantes-nine-circles-of-hell/

Fourth Circle: Greed

This section of Hell is reserved for the money-grubbers and overly materialistic among us. According to Dante, those condemned to the fourth circle spend eternity fighting over money and valuables, so be prepared to meet all of your distant cousins who show up out of nowhere with empty U-Haul trucks moments the moment after a well-to-do great aunt or uncle dies.

If you will admit that this is your grail watch...

Also, my wife and I met freshman year of college via the cycling club!!!

Sorry man, but that guy is just a liar and crook of the purest kind....and those who knew about his scam he has been threatening for years to keep their mouth shut....he should just spend a few years in prison instead of being considered a hero.

He retired a few years ago - just a figurehead for the group and I doubt he is even the team principle, despite his top billing. The team is mostly young no names so it helps to have a greatest ever type listed as involved!

Yeah, my brain popped. My buddies and I train like maniacs and whenever it comes out that one of the dudes who routinely beats us dopes, we want to commit murder

That's what I thought. I remembered when he retired. I wasn't happy to see him go but after his fractured back I was happy he didn't feel like he had to come back. He is a great rider.

Arg... I hate I can be bought so easily. Bought into the Cycleur de Luxe shoes Cancellara was repping in 2014, still wearing them today. Now I'm gonna have to buy into Tudor when I wasn't expecting it.

Not to keep this going... but also to keep it going...

Even if you do excuse the doping, which people can argue "everyone was doing so it evens out" (a whole peleton of wrongs don't make a right), I don't think you can excuse how terribly Lance treated people. Destroyed peoples' careers, got them blacklisted from cycling, took down Greg Lemond's bike brand, etc. when they didn't want to pledge full fealty to Lance. Aside from the doping, that's always been something I couldn't get over.

Don't know if you remember - Cancellara got accused of 'motor doping' (having a hidden electric motor in the seat tube) in one of his final races when he rode away from several guys.๐Ÿ™„

What was comical was that he had been doing that exact same thing, riding away from large groups of guys for about 20 years already. Long before such thing as e-bikes ever existed. It's exactly what he was famous for. Was a total monster in his day, I loved watching him in his prime. โค

Thanks my friend! Mid pack in an Olympic or Half is fantastic and takes huge commitment to achieve. Don't ever undersell, I know what it takes and it's not nothing. I respect everyone who toes the line.

At most events I can get a podium - but at worlds races I can only just crack the top ten.๐Ÿ˜‘

Thanks to doping and modern tech, riders where being accused of almost everything. Froome also accused of cheating with his inhaler just after his 2nd TDF. And if I'm remembering, Cadel Evans was accused of doping after his 2011 win. Don't quote me on that. It's been a while. But he probably was. I haven't heard of any accusations toward Peter Sagan. I've heard complaints but not accusations. I think he just reads the races well.

Lance and Barry Bonds are so similar it's not funny. Lance got what he deserved, unfortunately, way too late. And hopefully, but probably not, Bond's gets the same. But people tried to use that same excuse for why they did it. And it doesn't matter it hurt so many who didn't do it. Like @Fieldwalker said there could have been so much more competition out there if not for the dopers.

What about this guy & cycling? Seriously, how could cycling let Barry Bond's Jr sponsor cycling? Now if Barry is wearing a Tudor maybe Grand Seko has a chance!

love the photos! super cool that you raced in Japan. Always wanted to do a half or full distance ironman there (don't think they do the fulls there anymore).

Personally I prefer Festina because they come with a dope dispenser complication which is rather unique.
