I looked at the special edition Gulf version of this a few years ago in a pawnbrokers which was selling it for €1,000 with box. The Gulf version is €2,400 new which is way overpriced in my opinion. Build quality seemed good but I was disappointed it had only one tick per second chronograph movement. I prefer the sweeping second hand movement of my 15 year old Seiko quartz chronograph (not meca-quartz) which made more sense with a tachymeter dial. But I do prefer the 30 minute timer on this Tag as opposed to the sixty minute on my Seiko and many Japanese chronographs as easier to read the time quicker.
Most of my watches don't have anti-reflective coating but it's nearly always cloudy where I live so not a problem except when indoors or trying to take photos for Watchcrunch. I think the Rolex Explorer didn't have anti-reflective coating until recently.
Personally I prefer the look of the Murph but try them both if you can. I have a normal Khaki Field Auto 40mm and I think the metal strap is really good for the price point ( in my opinion), it's more comfortable than metal strap on my Longines Spirit, fits well and best of all has female end links.
