HELP! Sell or keep my first automatic watch

The Seiko Alpinist SARB017 was my first automatic watch and my gate to this beautiful hobby.

At the beginning I wore it a lot, now I barely used it.

I’m struggling with the decision of selling it or keeping it. Usually if I don’t wear a watch I sell it without regrets, but this time I’m not sure.

Any suggestions?

Keep the Alpinist. It’s a highly sought after piece.

·

Yeah, it’s a keeper.

·

Just keep it and buy a new watch to add to your burgeoning collection.

·

You are clearly conflicted so I'd advise hanging on to it. I'm guessing you would end up regretting letting it go.

·

Sell.

·

Keep until you’re no longer conflicted.

·

Clearly a keeper in my opinion, I'd advise you to change straps to get a new appreciation but based on your pictures you do it already... You're the only one to know if it's the right time to let it go... And maybe you can still stay in the Alpinist family, you have so much choice in that line, with for instance all the modern re-interpretations!

I understand how you feel. The thought of selling my SARB017 has crossed my mind too. It was my first automatic and rekindled my interest in the hobby. However, when I do put it on I find I really enjoy wearing it even though it's only few times a month.

It's looks, comfort on the wrist, 20 bar WR, and excellent accuracy have kept it in my collection. I put mine on a Strapcode bracelet. That gave it some new life for me.

Keep it. Give it a new pair of shoes and enjoy it again.

·

Keep it.

Hard to acquire currently & with it being the first, I'd regret letting it go.

·

Keep! Some of my watches fall out of favor, but they’re back in rotation in no time!

·

I’m torn.

I want to tell you to keep it even if you don’t want to wear it to often at all.

On the other hand

I want to ask you how much 🤣🙃🤔

·

sell it, you don´t wear it anymore you say

·

Isn't this one of those models that now retails above its original MSRP? If you sell it, you get the very rare feeling of actually having made a profit while collecting something.

·

Ooooh tricky spot there, my head says sell it, it's a highly sought after piece and fetches a pretty good price in the market right now... But my heart, my heart says, that's your first love and the door that let you into this wonderful world of watchmaking why would you want to kick that door down... I think collecting is about heart twice as much as it is about your head... So give your heart some time and see if your head and your heart find some common ground. Love it on that NATO by the way... Very very nice!

I rarely wear my first “big kid” watch, a Tag F1 I bought in ‘09, but I’d be damned if I were to ever let it go…waaaay too many sentimental value. That’s just me…follow your heart and good luck 🤙

·

Keep, it deserves a place in your collection just based on the emotional and personal history attachment. If you do decide to sell there will be plenty of people who will bite off your hand for it.

·

You have to keep it, it’s a very sought after piece and of course it’s a thing of beauty! 😎

·

Keep alpinist ! Brown leather strap.

·

Keep it and wait 5 years and see how you feel.
