What brand does not deserve the criticism they often get from the watch community?

Oh man, this is a tough one. I guess I gotta go C

Invicta doesn't deserve it. In that price category you can just have fun.

Sure, buy one get one free deals on shopping channels are a little bit unusual, and their designs are not for everyone. But there is no denying that they have plenty of repeat customers.

Had to vote for Tag Heuer. I just don't understand the appeal of industrial brutalism in watch design and feel both Hublot and Richard Mille are aesthetically just not pleasing, hence waaaay overpriced in my opinion. As for Invicta, I have been burned pretty badly by the brand; purchased six over about a year, four broke within six months of purchase, only one was covered by warranty, and I got sent a quartz replacement for an automatic. 😠

I think I’m there with you, bud. There’s def some shit Tags, but they’ve got some decent models too.

Invicta has a varied line of watches that go from crap to quality according to price point. They use Chinese (crap), Japanese (good) and Swiss (great) movements. Many here are brand biased or just like pretty watches but the important part is the movement which determines longevity and accuracy. Swiss Sellita or Swiss Ronda movements are great and they have them.

This is tough.

Hublot is fine until you get to the price.

Same with Richard Mille.

I like the reasonable side of Invicta, even some of the licensed stuff. That said, the outlandish designs and marketing strategy is 1000% worthy of the hate.

Tag Heuer's biggest sin seems to be that it's not Rolex or Omega.

Ask me today, I'll say Tag, but the answer will likely change weekly as I learn more about each

As someone once said" Tag Heuer needs less tag and more Heuer"..

·

I never understood the Tag hatred. That's a good brand.

Although I can understand the hatred for Invicta, given a lot of what they're putting out, i.e, all that big wacky shlt, the haters have never owned one of their divers, the Grand Divers and Pro Divers in particular, with the workhorse NH35A movement and attention to detail & quality.

Image

Doesn't bother me though, I'm used to it. I admire how well Invicta can make such a great watch for $100. I don't know who else can put forth such quality at that price.

·

For me it's a tie between Hublot and TAG Heuer. TAG is stepping their game up and Hublot is only really hated because they make a product that doesn't really cater to the enthusiast. It's a bit of a wild comparison, bear with me, but a car enthusiast won't find a 1.6 Toyota Corolla hatchback too interesting, that's because it's just not made for the enthusiast market. I think Hublot is clowned on more often than not because it's become a meme of sorts. So yeah, A and C for me.

·

They also have very creative advertising approaches that are outright humorous. (Not sure if I will go on an Invicta cruise anytime soon.)

But that being said: People seem to like those designs, and it's their choice. At the actual prices sold, I can't fault their offering all that much.

·

Hublot!!!

·

I never realized there was a level of hate for TAGHeuer until I joined WatchCrunch! I'm not a fan of Hublot's or Richard Mille's design philosophy (most of it seems to over-the-top for me), and I would buy a Casio or Timex before Invicta, but I always considered TAGHeuer as high-quality pieces with a strong, established reputation. But perhaps that's the Heuer side of the equation.

An interesting poll, though...

Compared to the alternatives, yes, it would have to be C.

Hublot is fine until you realize you’ve been pronouncing it wrong the whole time…it’s “hue-blow” 😂

Actually, it's U-bloh. The H is silent, the U is a French U, similar to the German Ü (I don't think there is a sound quite like it in English). And an open O at the end.

Thanks for clarifying but I think you made my point…”U-Blow” haha

Look, I used to think it was pronounced as spelled, Hublot with all letters bearing their sound, all vowels soft. But apparently it's ooblow, with no Y or H sound up front.

All three of these are clowned on a bit unfairly, but I'm on team Hublot so they get my vote.

Sounds a bit like people who shop at Target saying they shop at “Tar-shjay”. 🎯

HAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA! How did I totally miss what you meant?

Thanks for the belly laugh.

·

I would say Armitron doesn't deserve the hate however much of that seems to be in past. They are getting more appreciation now with their retro designs.

·

I don't want to vote as they all deserve all the criticism they get! Haha

As someone once said" Tag Heuer needs less tag and more Heuer"..

I am probably alone on this one but I much prefer the wild designs from the 90s over anything "Heuer branded". It may not have been perfect but at least they tried moving forward with the designs.

·

For me, anything that does not deliver value or way overpriced for it deserve the criticism.. whether it is crap movement or sloppy dial/case/bracelet manufacturing or finishing. Or even if decently made, are not justified by 10-100x pricing over cost. Thus, in some way all of the choices would fall more or less in one of those categories...

·

Tag. The 'mall watch' thing is very lazy.
