On wrist today: Rolex Submariner ref 14060M. On a strap! Shock…horror! Until I saw something similar on a watch forum, many moons ago - it had never even occurred to me to put it on a leather strap. Nato or bracelet, definitely. Just wasn’t that kind of watch in my eyes.

I guess it all adds to the Sub’s overall versatility….

I personally love a diver on leather, but I never do it.  I have 18 month old twins, and have to do bath time every night.  More than once I have forgotten to take my watch off so I just dont wear leather right now.

·

@mpower5266 yeah I know what you mean! Do have to be a bit more careful! Had the odd splash of water and hand sanitiser on it 😬

·

I'm not a fan of the look, or feel of bracelets in general, so I think the Sub looks better on a strap than on a bracelet.

To me the strap makes it look more like a tool, and less like a "hey everybody look at my watch" fashion accessory. Unless the strap is a really loud one, then the opposite would be true.

Looks great on a strap. Everest makes some great curved end straps for the Sub. Pricey, but well made.

·

Totally fine with leather strap IMO.

@KristianG A brushed one does tone down flashiness of a bracelet. Beads of rice or jubilees are quite sparkly in the right light but they are REALLY comfortable. Certain types of bracelets suit certain types of cases - a fluted bezel with a jubilee works quite well imo

I think it looks ok, honestly.

@santiago that’s a good shout actually! I have black rubber strap that works quite well (in my eyes!) on the sub even with a shirt and tie! That’s just me though….! The curved straps that Everest make are similar to the Oysterflex aren’t they? I think they have the metal inside the strap to maintain the curve

Now that’s a great look! I love leather straps on divers, especially Subs! 👏

·

Definitely not a bad look. I had mine on a dark brown cordovan every once in awhile.

@oakenlander @celinesimon Thanks. I mean we all know it was originally intended as a diving tool but the watch and brand have come to represent something else now (for better or worse)

Yup! For me, part of the Rolex package is the bracelet; I liked it a lot and I mostly kept it on there (as with my Lorier Falcon). However, it still works on a strap and the vintage pieces especially look good on leather.

Some people say that leather straps don't go with dive watches as the strap should be waterproof, but do we really use divers for its purpose? 99% of us don't. So who cares... Rock that Sub on leather! Looks amazing

·

Wow, I’ve never found the Submariner an attractive watch. I’m a leather strap for everything kinda girl, and for the first time I like the look of the sub!

It looks fantastic on you on the strap!

@WatchNerd1603 I would have to agree with those people IF they took it diving. It makes no sense to wear a leather strap diving (unless you deliberately wanted to ruin it and buy another one, of course 😉). That’s just practical! Thanks for your kind words

@VintageNat Yooooou! You made the Submariner blush…☺️

I think it does have that ‘tool’ vibe about it which lends itself to a more rugged appearance, generally speaking but it shows how much our social values have changed over the years, to see it slightly differently to it’s original purpose. Even most of Rolex‘s ‘Professional’ range of watches can now be ’dressed up’ imo
