How many watches of the same brand would you own?

To put into context, I have a set of 12 watches and do intend to keep it that way. - though I'll likely fail as my resolve is tested every single time..

Having said that, I have 2 Seikos, a DressKX and a an SPB117 Alpinist.

Been really tempted to add a SSC813 of late but I can't bring myself to let my other watches go. More importantly I keep telling myself I shouldn't own too many Seikos on a 12 watch collection. Anyone feel the same way?

I have five CWs, I didn't plant o be a CW collector, but CW keeps releasing watches I like...

My approach is all about owning watches I love, regardless of brand. I'd never buy something I don't like as much, just because I already own "too many" of a particular brand.

Have every single iteration of non-Ti Helm, cause I like their designs.

And a few Seiko's of various flavor.

·

There are just so many watches from so many brands that keeping a guideline of "no more than x number of <brand>" can be both folly & smart.

Folly: if a brand's offerings are really speaking to you, the guideline artificially cuts you off from what you like. Additionally, no one can own all the watches. Why try?

Smart: If you adhere to the guideline because a brand isn't wowing you, you keep yourself open to newer brands & designs and you could find that watch that no one else you know has heard about and have a real unique item.

·

This is a no judgement zone so you buy what you like, no matter the brand. I have 50% of my collection in Seikos as it’s just the right value point for me right now. I’d love to add an Alpinist, Speedtimer, DressKX, or one of the many Sharp Edge or Cocktail Time watches which I guess would complete an entire box of Seikos 😜

·

I’ve currently got 2 Seikos and 2 from Borealis in a 20 watch collection. Like other people on here have said I wouldn’t worry too much about buying from the same brand, and Seiko are so large that you could have a whole collection of just them and it could be a very varied collection. Maybe just keep an eye on others so you don’t miss anything but just buy what you like.

·

Well, I have six Casios including two Duros. But they’re different colors. And cheap.

I have two Paganis. Which are homages of two Omegas.

So I have two Fauxmegas.

I have two Hamiltons and I’d gladly have more.

So, um, what was the question again?

·

I'm probably not the best person to ask. I've got over a dozen Felcas and over fifty Seikos but that's just me. At least I sold off my doubles. Buy what you love, stay within your means. Your Wrist, Your Rules!

·

I have four Grand Seiko, four Hamilton and three Farer. Although I think I will be getting rid of one of each soon.

Tell me about it man.. CW is absolutely killing it right now. Do you pull the trigger when it's love at first sight or do you give yourself a moment to internalise what you like about the watch?

That's a unique take. I'm hoping more of the latter that I'll end up with. How about you? How do you decide what deserves a spot in your collection?

I guess to a certain extent keeping to the boundaries are allows me to also save up for a bigger grail purchase 🤔.

I would love to buy what I like but my wallet can't keep up 😭

Hmm good point. How long did it take you to amass such a collection? Also do you actively hunt for an addition?

Hmm are you downsizing to make way for new additions?

Wow how long did it take you to collect em all? The waitlist for Helms are insane! I was lucky to snag a Komodo at retail price aftermarket, but moved it on to make space for my depthmaster

Yes! 🤫😄

·

If I had 12 watches in my collection they would all be from different brands, except maybe 2 from one brand I really like

·

6 Omegas, 5 Hamiltons.

·

Honestly, as many as I want! I am approaching 30 Casios. I think I need help... 😉

·

Hi everyone. I just joined today so this is my first post/response. I’m excited to be part of this!

I have always collected watches based on how I feel about them individually. I own several multiple pieces from Omega, Tudor, IWC, etc. I’ve never placed a number in my mind or a limit as to how many from a particular brand. However, there is one watch that for some reason I had an urge to collect heavily and try and own every iteration, and that’s the Hamilton Khaki field. To me it felt just as satisfying wearing them, as it was purchasing and adding each one. I decided to stay in the 38 size and collect all of the different case materials they offered; steel, titanium, bronze, and even added the Murph.

·

I don’t impose arbitrary limits. If you’re enjoying them all, one shouldn’t have to be sacrificed to make way for another.

With CW it's a snap decision, with other brands it might take months/years to decide. I know what I like in a watch, and I know CW makes great watches, so when they release something I find interesting I buy it.

·

I try to stick to one watch per brand in the luxury segment. There are some brands that I would easily break that rule for (specifically Omega), but I find myself longing for a first watch from other brands before getting a second watch from Omega.

But in the non-luxury segment, I do have three Seiko's and three G-Shocks in my collection currently. I like the various styles that Seiko has in their collection and one of my Seiko's is the first mechanical watch I ever bought (a Seiko 5 Sea Urchin), so that watch isn't going anywhere. But I do find myself thinking about selling one of the other two Seikos. I have multiple G-Shocks simply for color variety. I have a yellow, orange and blue variant for times when I just want to showcase some personality.

And here I am hesitant to buy the new Twelve because it would be my 3rd CW watch 😅

·

I bought the King Turtle and King Samurai because my buddies recommended them and I thought they were unmatched in terms of cost / build. Sigh — uninformed consumer. I bought the SSK GMT because I was a sucker and failed to time the market. I will now follow the rule of two. Works for the Sith and watch collecting.

·

I have 4 Hamilton's, 3 omegas, 2 zelos, and 2 Christopher wards. All of my other watches are one-offs, for now anyhow lol.

·

I adhere to one brand, one watch. It keeps me disciplined with my acquisition roadmap (perhaps a bit limiting).

·

I have four Swatch watches (three MoonSwatch) and two Longines. I have one Farer and plans to buy another. The rest of my assortment are from different brands.

·

I think In 10 years I'll be owning like 10 Nomos watches 😅
