To wind or not to wind? ๐Ÿค”

So you bought a watch winding box thinking that that once the box is filled, so will your lust for these magnificent ticking machines be fulfilled..

Alas, before you know it, your desk runs out of space and you sell your clothes and give some away for charity so you have more storage.

Okay I digress, do you guys wind your watches every night? Or do you only wind and set them just before you strap them on that permanent silhouette on your wrist? Are there any cons in winding them daily just to save you the trouble of setting them before you put them on?

I wind them as I wear them. I have a lot of watches and even if I don't wear some as much as others I make sure they all get a full wind once a month.

Never had an issue.

Further proof that automatic watches are silliness and that hand wind was better!

I think I only have one automatic that I can wind, and it is a simple three hander with no date. And it's a vintage bumper automatic to boot. I give a turn or two to get it started, but not to keep it running all night.

I wind them when I put them on as needed. My two full mechanicals get wound before wearing, my autos are on a need-to-wind basis. Currently Iโ€™m just #1wc with my 70 hour power reserve so I havenโ€™t turned a crown since that began. Typically Iโ€™ll occasionally pick up a dead watch and wind it just to admire it or keep it running but not much.

Start the day wearing the non winder to give her some juice then, I give the winders about 20 cranks whilst coffee is brewing. Day after day after day after day......๐Ÿ˜Ž

If I know I'm going to wear a certain watch tomorrow, I'll wind it and set it the night before, then top it off in the morning before I put it on.

I should probably just leave them alone but I canโ€™t.

I rotate my automatic watches qute often and go for 2-3 days or even more without picking one up. All of them have 60-70h of power reserve and oftenly just ran out prior wearing them again. That is why I opted for winder and have watches in rotation always on not to bother with time and date setting, just pick them up and go. Another story is with my hand wind watches ( all dress watches ), I take the time and wind+set them prior use and accept the fact it is meant to be like that and enjoy in the process. But wouldn't want this to be a daily routine on all watches, hence have automatic watches and a winder.

I just set my work watch the night before
