What is the watch you want, but doesn’t exist?

For me (today), it would be a hand wound, spring drive bicompax chronograph, with the fit of the Speedmaster, white dial, blue hands, 5 link bracelet tapered from 20mm to 16mm with quick release system (and an extra racing leather strap included), the heritage of the Autavia, 38-39mm, under 13mm thick, sapphire caseback, deployant clasp with on-the-fly micro adjustment, 100 mts WR, under $5K retail.

I swear I’m sober. Don’t judge me 😂

I would love for Longines to recreate their 30CH / 13ZN chronograph movements, throw it in a 35-38mm steel case with a half decent bracelet, give it *some* WR, and a GADA esque vibe to its dial/hands. Something simple, classic, but nooot quite dressy.

I'd sell all my watches and a family member for one. Name your price Longines, I'm ready.

Stemming from another post, I was thinking about who could dethrone Rolex. What if Apple made a mechanical watch with some minor tech in the background that’s tastefully integrated? No one wants to wear a wrist computer but everyone I see has one. Why is that?

I want an egg timer complication. You twist the dive style bezel up to 60 minutes. Let go and it starts counting down to zero. At zero it buzzes.

If I had that I could leave my cell phone at home most days.

Right up my alley…. That 30CH is fan-freaking-tastic. Gorgeous timeless design.

I think it would sell like hot bread, however, much like the apple watch, it wouldn’t appeal too much to the hardcore watch enthusiast. The majority of people who purchases Apple watches are not into watches, they’re into Apple. Which I respect, but don’t agree on.Apple already sells more than 50 million watches each year, compared to the million of Rolex. That’s a $10 billion business a year aprox (Rolex) Vs. A $27 billion business a year aprox (Apple). If you measure success that way, then Apple already won over every other watch company. However, that’s just my two cents on the matter.

Super useful for cooking. I think there’s something like that in Parmigiani Fleurier. Only it’ll set you back more than $30K.

Not just cooking. I use countdown timers all day. Parking meters, naps, covid tests….

That Parmigiani is cool but doesn’t have an alarm when the timer finishes. No more useful than a bezel or Chrono. This type of complication existed back in the 40s and 50s. It was called a marking meter timer.

It would be a watch I suggested to a well-known European company based on existing parts, or parts they had used previously, who turned around and said, 'We'll build that for you bespoke if you like...' and suggested a price. I should have it in the next month or two; it was scheduled for a Q1 build date so is close. When I do, naturally I will share it here :)

Bang on!

I’d happily pay about 3-4 grand for an SKX recreation, same dial as the original 007, with an 8L movement, ever brilliant steel and uncle’s Z199 bracelet revival. Please do it Seiko, please. Same dimensions pleaaaase. As the Mad watch collector has said, I keep looking for the perfect watch, and every time every few days I wear my SKX, I realize that’s the perfect watch

Alright, I have this thing in mind I wanna see made but it never will be.

I'm a fisherman (recreational) and I love watches. I would love to see an analog tide watch based on a solar GPS movement that would automatically display the exact tides based on where you are in the world on an internal rotating bezel. The second hand could also point to the day's tide coefficient (0-120 very easy to implement on a chapter ring or even markers).

Imagine this in a old school skin diver type thing with modern technology and real use for fishermen and boaters alike.

Tudor BB Pro…but <12mm total thickness, and ideally a coaxial escapement with display case back…oh and applied, lumed Arabic’s please thank you.

·

Grand Seiko mistflake with 120 hour spring drive movement, power reserve on the back and a clasp with on the fly adjust.

Power reserve on the back. Yes. Thank you. I see the value in it, but I passionately dislike to have it stamped on the dial…

That’ll be great, specially the thickness. The Arabics I can do without, but other than that… I agree with you.

I love to read how you connected the two passions…. That’s great! I have zero clue of how any of what you mentioned work, but I’m sure it would be amazing.

I’m fairly new to the watch hobby. When I joined, the SKX were already crazy high in prices, so I never got to experience one. Although, judging by its following, I can’t help but remain convinced it is an awesome watch.
