Kit-Cat Klok!

So this has been around since 1932, and I’d like to know your thoughts on it… I find it very fun and classic, that’s definitely something that I’d hand in any wall of my home or even office. I think there’s something beautiful about it… What do you think?

Those eyes. Stop staring at meeeeeee !!!!!

·

I remember seeing walls of those in truck stop gift shops as a kid. A few years ago I ordered a repro off eBay. It still keeps time but the tail quit wagging after about a year.

·

The “C” batteries are a pain and the tail needs to be reset when it stops. It is a surprisingly high maintenance wall clock.

I close my eyes and see the cat’s eyes moving. Freakin me out.

This post just reminded me that my daughter said she really wanted one after we saw it featured in an old movie. I always thought they were kinda neat. At least in a gimmicky way.

Off to Amazon. Thank you! 😆

Love it

This happened a longtime ago, the guy who used to sell vintage watches to a few of my good friends started to ride a bicycle home each day always stopping at a convenience store for some junk food and soft drink noticed the K-C Klok that decorated the back wall offered to buy the collectible for $500 back in the late 80s eventually mounted his prize in his own Queen Street shop. My senior VP boss had attempted to buy the clock on numerous occasions but the Korean store owner didn’t like his low ball offers would say the clock which carried some brand advertising was not his to sell. My old boss collected Gruen Curvex watches with a preference for the very long models that practically covered a entire wrist with curved watch case; he and the vintage guy had a serious falling out over some deal so the K-C klok was like salt in my boss’ raw cut. He decides to buy the converted house and cancels the convenience store’s lease so the vintage guy cannot stop at his favourite place for snacks and a Coke. The original building which housed the convenience store was eventually purchased by a young couple who wanted to live downtown but could not afford one of the narrow houses on the leafy tree lined residential streets near the mix use brownstone that my wife and I reside in. It still looks like a commercial business in the front but a nicely renovated residence in the rear portion of the corner structure, worth a lot of money in Toronto’s housing market but a bit of a Franken house which recalls perfectly all the Franken Rolex divers the vintage guy famously sold to collectors new to the dangerous game of old watches. Sorry for the long comment, I have been accused by friends that I connect everything to my watch collecting hobby.

We have one in a short hallway from the kitchen to the garage

I still have one but one of the battery contacts broke off so I replaced it with a Felix instead.

It's a cat clock and therefore it's automatically 5000% better than non cat clocks.

·

These are very cool clocks.

A 100% right about that, but so worth it for me.

Now THAT’S a cool watch… Looks like something I would’ve gotten as a kid and never ever ever wanted to take it off.

They're cool enough that The Bottle Rockets wrote a song about them, so that's good enough for me.

That’s a great way to measure coolness…

Your comment, and your story, and not only worth the read but worth the money! Hey, is that why we’re here after all? We like to ramble on about watches, and their stories… and this one, my friend, is a story indeed. Incredible how an object can carry so many memories, right?

I pass by the structure every day wish I had the money to buy the place so many years ago I should have took a picture of the lovely house/store. Thx for allowing me to remember about the old days!❤️❤️

It's a classic!

It is I who thank you for sharing the story…. It is nice to remember the “good old days”.

It is indeed.

I like it. There's a retro / fun /funky element to it. Touch of art deco design. Also, I feel it's iconic. I now want one for my wall haha

That’s the thing…. All of a sudden you see it and you now want one, it is super cool, and playful.

Exactly! Bold piece, but it can't be beat. I also remember it was in the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids movie.

Pure class. A statement piece that says "Yes, I know horology and confident to stand out. Just bask in my awesomeness."

That clock was on my childhood bedroom wall, which dates me. Still a cool clock, but seemed a bit less creepy then.

To be fair, I took the photo in a way that looks kinda disturbing. 😂😂

They STILL make these. They are just battery powered now. They don't get much choice with movements as the company makes a big thing about "Made in the USA"

Recently bought a pair…. I’ve seen some photos of crazy customization too, but I don’t know if it’s a company, and invidual, or some talented person with free time.

Also, back then there were no movies about cherished childhood toys that became sentient and turned malicious!
