Audemars Piguet x John Mayer collab! Our boy John made it!
What do you think about this collaboration? I feel it’s a no brainer.
Being honest, it is, of course, one of those watches that 99.9999999% of people won’t ever see in person, let alone have. However, there’s a market out there for ultra luxury, and it makes much more sense to make a collab with Mayer, that with Travis Scott or Marvel. But maybe that’s just me.
I’m personally glad for him. I think the guy is truly passionate about watches, just as he is with music… I think that passion is contagious.
But I’m eager to read you…

Actually both Travis Scott and John Mayer makes sense. If you think about it Travis Scott and Nike have found ways to over price their 90 dollar shoes by simple design. I'm sure there's 3 or 4 millionaires that will buy the Travis Scott AP just to claim they have it. AP just riding the hype waive. With the John Mayer AP is for the real ultra luxury watch enthusiast. They know he's a collector he likes watches. Now the Marvel Spiderman AP I have no idea what crowd wants to spend crazy money on a Spidey watch. Anyone can License Spiderman I think Citizen makes marvel watches too.

I think so too… I can appreciate its beauty, although I’ll never purchase it myself. But the texture on the dial is gorgeous. The color is great…

Love John and this is a lovely watch but not one for my world. I'll pick up one of his signature PRS guitars and his Gshock collab instead one of these days 😂

I know exactly what you mean. There's ton of Rappers (if that's who AP are trying to hire) that are actually watch collectors but not as popular or carry any brand weight. Same reason why I don't like brand ambassadors (cough cough Breitling, Tudor and TAG) none are actually passionate about watches or the heritage. They just collect expensive pieces.
He’s great ambassador for all kinds of timepieces. Never a bad thing.

For me, there are collabs that makes sense as long as the celebrity really is interested in watches… If it’s some random person that just happens to be famous, then I truly dislike it.

I'm not crazy about the brand, as I feel it's slowly veering Hublot and it should absolutely volunteer its spot in the Holy Trinity to Lange ... But, at least, John lent his name to a complicated piece, so he hasn't totally sold his soul.
I agree that if you attach any celebrity it will sell and increase price. However, I respectfully differ from your opinion on he sticking to music. The guy’s a great musician, granted… But (and this is only my perception) I truly believe the guy’s passionate about watches, given the opportunity to collab with a watch brand, why wouldn’t he? I have an engineering degree, ended up working in marketing/sales. If some watch brand lost all common sense and asked me to collab with them on a design, I’d jump at the opportunity without thinking twice about it.

Yeah, I agree. They’re doing something the right way to have the used prices so high. They’re smart. I have to grant them that.
I think the price is what makes me feel guilty LOL. I already own a Type XX so it kinda did not fit the collection. For the same price I was able to snatch a IWC and Omega Speedmaster so I think that was a better choice.

It’s a beautiful piece from #audemarspiguet I can understand why some people may dislike or even hate this watch but I love to see someone like John, a guy who truly genuinely loves watches get this collaboration. This is much better and more deserving than the Travis Scott AP

Absolutely. It is a great accomplishment. And as far as I understand it, there are many more to come.
That watch is stunning! The blue and the complications are my favorite. I'm not surprised that they picked him, either. He's been in the watch scene as genuine collector/enthusiast for a while, and I also like that he wears his watches. And you're right, the vast majority of us will only see this watch via YouTube, but hey, at least we can see it!

And to be fair, he went for a design that’s incredibly gorgeous… the texture of the dial is beautiful, the color pairs super well with the white gold of the bracelet, the complication is amazing… I think even if the watch was regular production, and was available for walk-in customers, I wont be able to buy that, nor would I feel comfortable doing so…. I think it’s $200K+
All of that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the existence of the watch.
