Does your adventure watches actually go on adventures?

The whole idea of having field/diver watches is that they’re tool watches to aid during adventures, and so I ask: Do you really take the watches on your adventures? This was the first time that I took my Hamilton on a hike. It’s been to the sea already (never diving). But I felt proud at the end of the hike, so I took a few photos… this took place in El Cajón del Maipo, Chile.

Not judging, just asking because I love to chat….

I unfortunately almost always grab my gshock for adventures

If by adventure you mean the pool or the sea, yes, my watches go.

Well I went to Walmart the other day……..

That’s a fantastic watch for that. GShocks are pretty much bulletproof… great WR, and probably you wouldn’t be super mad if you bang it against a rock…

That was as much adventure as the Hamilton used to get…. When the opportunity came, I jumped at the chance to use it… I have no G-Shock, which would be my go-to.

I’d argue… try to go there on Black Friday, that is an adventure on its own. So I think that qualifies…. Or perhaps back in 2020 going for toilet paper. Also an adventure.

If you count snorkeling in Mexico, then yes 😄

That’s wonderful to see… and the lake too. Seriously though, the orange suits the watch fantastically. I considered giving one to my dad on one ocassion… Where was that?

Seiko + Jubilee is a winning combo. I love the looks. It’s great to see all the great places you’ve been to with your watches. For me it’s not much adventures as they are trips. I have to travel a lot and most my watches join me during those. Keeping my wrist warm, as I like to say.

Absolutely! What's the point of having a watch that can survive an adventure in the wilderness if you're never going into the wilderness?

How could I not? Of course…. That’s incredible. How was the experience? It’s not all the time one gets to say “this watch was with me during that snorkeling trip where I saw that giant turtle eating a jellyfish while a dolphin swam beside me and we took a selfie”…. I imagine that’s how it was like, right?

Sinn 104 skiing in Canada.

Black dial, green nato. My favorite combination. Looks tactical even, I imagine the scene of a James Bond movie. Snow, trees, skiing, the watch, an important mission, and a villain with an evil looking cat.

·
CarlosM

Love to see them watches on natos on the wild. The photos are incredible, and I’d imagine so were the scenes. There are so many places I’d like to take my watches to, I eventually will do.

Make it happen, amigo.

@Fieldwalker will certainly tell you it is so. His photos on his wild adventures have no equal. 😉

I’m not on crunch much lately , family vacay means no time on phone

But yes, as @hakki501 suggests, my watches come with.

Key to building long memories and personal story

I agree with you on thay my friend…. Key to long-lasting memories is to bring a watch wherever you go.

I guess they do every piece speaks to the wearer one or the other way

I like that thought…. Watches speaking to people!

Are you mad 😂 !! Hehe maybe if I go whitewater rafting I will wear my Casio in case it gets smashed on a rock 🪨. If i go camping or surfing, casio baby $300 if it gets destroyed not $2000 or $4000 or $6000 as are my watches prices roughly. If I get an expensive watch in a 100 years when I am reincarnated into my family I want to inherit “ grandpa David’s “ watch in good nick 😂

No, I get that. If you’re after having your pieces intact, then by all means the best you can do is not to wear them on hikes, rivers or any crazy activity. Better keep em safe.

·
arse41

Yes, I do wish I would take some of my automatics on hikes and stuff but every time I just feel the gshock would be the best suited for the task

Absolutely Paul no stress factor either if it somehow disappears from your hotel or cabin or tent ⛺️

You don’t dive in a dive watch in the 21st century, except for advertising purposes. Last time an Explorer went up Everest was probably mid 20th century etc etc.

Adventure watches are now Garmin Phenix or Suunto. Unless it’s on a Tv show or instagram.

Diving - computers

Alpine - GPS/Glosnass

maybe snorkelling 🤿 👍👌

I agree, but I find it great to have my watch with me when exploring. I love to be able to wear my Hamilton to the river, beach, pool or any other body of water with peace of mind.

Same with the Casio Royale. I love that thing… I don’t have to worry about it.

It’s a personal satisfaction to be snorkeling, like you said, and see my watch on my wrist. In a way, I love the idea of having a watch that embodies a life that I won’t be able to live (take the Lindbergh Hour Angle for example) Impractical? Yes Beautiful and romatic? Also yes!

This is a very good point and I haven’t thought about it. But it really adds to the benefits.

Could’t agree more. Do you reach for specific watches when you know an important event is coming to make sure the memory is attached to that specifically?

It warmths my heart to see the photos… the Sakura is looking sexy, and the Alpinist it’s a totally different animal than how it looks on press photos. The first one (diver) I have no clue of what could be.

Cheers Carlos!

The Alpinist and my GSs - and most of my watches, vary appearance considerably. I can make Alpy look plain or glamorous pretty easily with lighting

And the pattern in the bricks shifts in bright light.

Blacky is the Seiko SNR043 ‘moonlit ocean’ - supposed to look like moonlight reflecting off the sky ocean at night. Bring into camping via kayaking to nowhere - I sometimes enjoy looking at the moonlit ocean 😉

Anyway - it looks like this :
