Do you have insurance coverage for your collection?

I did a thing: finally got insurance for my collection. I’ve always written off insurance as unnecessary. But as my modest collection has grown, I’ve come to the realization that should something happen to any of them, I would be quite sad and it would be hard to replace. I also always had the preconceived notion that insurance would be so expensive as to be not worth it. But I submitted my watches for a quote and was pleasantly surprised by the annual premium for coverage of my 12 watch collection (10 mine + 2 for the missus). I’m not going to mention which insurance company I ended up using, as I didn’t intend this to be an ad. But if you’re interested in knowing more, DM me. I opted to go with an insurance coverage specific for watches, i.e., I didn’t just add them to my home owners content insurance. It worked out cheaper this way. And the watch specific insurance provided lost, damage, and theft coverage as well as appreciation coverage. I don’t think typical contents / home owners insurance provides that. So yeah…how many of you use insurance for your collection?

Yes, but only on pieces worth over $1K.

I don’t have anything worth enough to pay a monthly premium on

·

I added a "jewelry" amount to my coverage to cover watches int he event of theft at home/fire. Nothing I own is worth insuring on an individual basis.

Only on my Tudor BB 925 and my wife's 18K/Diamond TAG Aquaracer.

Gotta look into this. I was visiting friends in NY and brought a fun beater with me. My friend asked to see my Speedy and when I jokingly said I was too worried about it getting stolen in NY, he shot back and said if your house gets robbed while you're away, you'll lose your whole collection. Needless to say, I was miserable the rest of that trip.

I too need to look into getting coverage. At least on a few select pieces in the collection. Your summary sounds similar to other post I have read here...better to cover individual watches vs adding to homeowners policy, etc. Thanks for the reminder.

Most house policies can include jewelry.

I'm cool with letting people know I have a State Farm Personal Articles Policy on all my watches = no deductible, no Exclusions, covered anywhere on the planet. I think it is no different than sharing a great watch strap or microbrand. If it gives WC people useful info it'scool. All my watches live in a safe when not worn as well. Fire rated 120 mins, drill rated 60 mins, behind walls and cameras . Maybe a few firearms as well. Part of living in a modern world.

Hmm, any one of my timepieces has not enough value to justify an insurance. But all together, especially when i count my 2 Seiko s would justify it. Though i didn t thought about it yet, as our companys in ger seems to get ya cash but when it s time to pay they say no and cancle your contract. Maybe it s just me, but the lot of them are robbers

When I go overseas I put my whole jewellery box ( wife & mine ) into a storage locker fully insured. I am retired and my mum lives with us mostly someone is home so , not more than general house insurance atm , but I am thinking about getting insurance too for my watches & jewellery.

I've got my SM300 insured, but my other watches are worth far more combined & they aren't. Guess I'd better look into insuring those too 🤓

·

Yes but I had to limit it to just really expensive watches and jewelry. One could buy a couple of nice Seikos for what insurance runs us over a year.

·

Only as part of my homeowners insurance. I do not have anything over $1k in my collection.

·

Like others have said, yes, for everything over $1000.

Scheduled them individually as it broadens the coverage. Don’t just bank on the standard jewelry coverage on a homeowners policy. Trust me, im an insurnace agent and have seen lots of jewelry claims.

Theft is really getting out of hand, just a few weeks ago someone stole my fathers daytona, fortunately he is ok, but gosh! I found a platform that was made to report stolen watches, it’s called JoinTrack.org I hope this helps a bit.
