My first build!

Well I’ve finally done it

Image

Built my first watch, really enjoyed the process including choosing the components. I decided to build a fairly simple watch that was of a diver style but it had to have a dial of my favourite colour….. yep it’s blue.

I went for a 40mm yachtmaster style case with sapphire crystal and solid back and some nice bold diving hands in red, black and white to contrast the blue dial.

I built the watch around the venerable NH series movement and after some thought I decided for a clean dial with numerals at 3,6 & 9 without any day/date, so I chose the NH39. The great thing about the NH35-Nh39 is they are all pretty much the same with some differing complications ie the NH39 has an open heart.

Image

The build went straight forward enough with the usual fine work around the hand setting and the nerve twitching moments when you cut the excess pins of the back of the dial and the measuring and cutting the stem😂

Overall I’m pleased with it albeit a weak lume and I shall build more, I’m just waiting on a rubber strap and an oyster style bracelet then I’ll choose which one to fit!

The great thing about this process is, it’s my watch and probably unique in that sense

Till the next build……… 🕰

Looks amazing, well done, Seiko take note!

·

That looks amazing. I love everything about it. Great job!

·

Amazing job. How do you build a watch?! It's out of my comprehension right now. Maybe I can learn later on in my life though I'm not good with being very attentive to small details.

It is a fairly simple process, there are plenty of videos with great tips on YouTube even down to particular movements. You will need some tools such as a watch repairers kit, vernier calliper, hand setting pushers, case back removers etc which don’t cost the earth oh and some sort of magnification!

Then browse Aliexpress, seiko mods etc for your parts, just remember to buy a case, dial and hands for a particular movement…., have fun

Very cool, well done 🙌🏻!

·

Amazing, stylish and cohesive choices in parts and design. Interested to see what you come up with next. On the next build, how about taking us along with the journey.

·

Awesome!!! Love it!! I thought I’m not a fan of the 3,6,9 dial but I’m loving it now!!

Oh man!! You hit on the nose the nerve twitching stem settings!! Always get extra parts hahaha!!

How was the crown was it screw down? Or push in? Let me know I want to build another one (even though I have 4 builds coming lol) I want to get a good case with no screw down crown hiccups…

Love it dude!! Let’s build more!! I’m playing around with water slide decal for logos!! Makes it more personalized 😜

·

If you lube up the back case cover you can press on some epoxy putty (from auto supply store) to make yourself the Rolex case back tool you need so you can get it tight. There are only the Rolex or Seiko fake cases to choose from and the Rolex case backs use the proprietary tool set. Good choice on the hand to avoid making an Explorer fake. Well done with your build.

·

Really nice combination! I’m betting it’ll be fun to reply to compliments with, “Oh, just something I threw together.” Enjoy “your” watch!

It’s a screw down crown, liking the decal idea🤔

Thanks Brian, for the case back tip, I use a Bergeon 8 ball that works pretty well and as I’m not diving it should be ok….

I didn’t want it to look too Rolex and I’m glad you saw that 👍🏻

Thanks I literally did 😂😂

Congratulations!

·

Loving that lume shot, and the colour combos that will have the designers at Farer offering you a job.

·

I love that second hand!

Very cool 👏

·

Congrats on you build. You’ve done a fantastic job!

I actually just spent some time putting together parts my self to buid one. I’m trying for a custom dial logos as well.

Go flex that bad boy ever where you go!

🍻

·

That’s a real cracker of a watch fella💪

·
Bayl61

Oke doke it’s gonna be called "bluey" for fairly obvious reasons😂

Congrats! 👌

Once again your skills are impressive. Beautiful watch. I can build just about anything. But I don’t know if I’d have the patience to build a watch.

Of course you will, remember it’s not a race take your time and enjoy!

Looks great and looking forward to your next build! Have you got a name for this baby?

Yeah it’s gonna be bluey, rather obvious but boring I’m afraid 😂

You make it sound so easy! 🤣

First step, I'm going to join a watch making full day workshop and see if my fingers and patience can even handle it all.

·

That's a nice case and dial. I would have gone with a different hand though, but still that's a cool build!

I assure you assembling a case, movement, hands, dial and strap is relatively easy!👍🏻

·

That's really great. I've done the DIY kits. Will definitely move to do one of my own choice in due course. Hope it goes as well as yours.

I am very sure that it will, if you’ve done the kit now time for your own stamp. Don’t forget to order everything around the mechanism ie hands, dial, case etc

Good luck🤞🏻

·

Hands aren't my taste, and the sterile dial doesn't work for me, but that lume combo is top notch.
