That one thing!

I know I will probably get hate for this but...is there just one thing about a watch that is an immediate turn off for you? Some people hate quartz some people hate intergrated braclets. Just curious what some people's quirks are. The only thing that is an immediate turn off for me is power reserves. I have seen some done well but to me it's just a useless complication. I guess it's good for watches that hang out on a winder so you can see when to stop at a quick glance but other then that if I just don't like the space they take over on a dial. Am I alone on this one?

I love the power reserve indicator. Even more than the date window. Sadly, I do not own any watches that have a power reserve indicator.

·

That's a good question.

Recently for me it's integrated bracelet because I love having the ease of choosing other straps or leather etc.

Also the size of a watch since I prefer smaller watch now. If it's more then 42 mm it's almost instantly a no go for me.

Even more if it's a no bezel watch I prefer them 40mm and smaller.

As for the power reserve I don't have any with some but I feel they look okay. They don't bother me.

I'm thinking how orient star have integrated some and I kind of like the look of it.

·

I figured I might be in the minority on this one haha.

·

Integrated bracelets/straps are a deal breaker-too limiting.

Overlapping subdials/scales-too confusing.

Diamonds-not that there's anything wrong with that.

·

I’m afraid it’s skeletonised watches for me, i find em ugly to look at sorry if I offend any owners it’s just my opinion 👍🏻

I am with you on integrated braclets. I have wanted the prx chrono for a while now and I know if I get it that it will stay on braclet forever probably. So I go into them knowing that. And yes it's hard for me to like anything over 45 mm. Usually 42 is my cut off but I have a few big boys that I still enjoy. Raised in gshocks so I guess conditioned to be comfortable with bulky watches haha.

I don't like diamonds either didn't even think of that until you said it.

Yes that's second on my list there are some amazing ones like the Cartier with the movement in the rotor. But I find most of them hard to read.

I truly hate diamonds on a watch. Unless you have a rainbow Daytona, they just cheapen the look. Also bad text on the dial and bad logos. The old Christopher Ward logos are atrocious. And the steeldive or adisdive or whatever other AliExpress dive logos are pretty terrible.

·

Roman numerals, I just don't like them

·

For me an immediate turn off is when the subdials cut off the hour markers (numbers). I don’t hate it, however if you are only going to put half the number why even put it there.

Biggest watch turn off? Watches I can't afford!

·

I on that integrated bracelet hate train also. I started buying more straps for the watches I have now. And loving mixing things up. To many dress watches become sportier with the right strap and sport watches get dressier. With integrated bracelets you're stuck.

·

Date windows at 4:30 or similar.

·

Three quick ones.

The lack of zero. Seriously, otherwise perfect watch:

The misaligned screws. Otherwise I would have scooped one (not this particular model) up while the internet was making fun of them:

Any $5000 watch with a basic movement.

The main turn off for me are watches that don't keep good time. For instance, Seiko's standards are so loose in this area it makes the brand's mechanical timepieces unattractive to me. Sorry Seiko fans, but watches need to do better than -15 to +25 seconds over 24 hours. And the last Seiko I bought didn't even perform to those!

But I still would like a Honda Cub. 😎

Haha seiko fan boy here. But you are not wrong.

·

Screw down pushers on chronographs. Can’t use the chrono because the are locked tight can’t leave them open incase some light mist gets in

·

My turn off is dual time watches(not GMT watches, the ones that have two physical hour minute dials) and also watches that have hour minutes dials as a smaller dial inside the watch.

I hope all your watches are quartz or I have some bad news for you 😂

Atleast power reserve has a fucrtion. For me, its mostly GMT, its a gimmick I dont quite get. Its fine on digital watches with the ability to track multiple places for whatever reason, but to dedicate the bezel and insert a fourth marker is so Odd to me. I can see the appeal in a craftmanship kind of way, if its automatic/mechanical, but I would rather have a watch without the gmt to be fair 😅

·

Haha the hate for GMTs is real. I don't understand why but hey to each his own. To me that and a chronograph are the two most useful complications made.

·

I scrolled through this really thinking I was unique in my hatred for Roman numerals lol glad it's not just me. There's something about the aesthetic that's off putting to me it's so much the looks as it is like....the vibe? I don't vibe with Roman numerals if that makes any sense whatsoever.

·

I don't mind roman numerals at all but I do despise California dials. Pick one or the other mixing two fonts seems like some back asswords thing California would do.

·

Cyclops can’t do it, won’t do it

Maybe its because im too poor to be flying several times a year, but a Casio royale can do everything a gmt does for way less money. So yeah, I respect the movement from a technical level, but its not really useful that much to me. However theres a lot of love for the Seiko 5 gmt, so maybe its just a me problem 🤣

Chronograph, day/date is the most useful. Im so bad at remembering what the date is, and I use it every day on the job.

Most impressive complication is the minute repeater on a mechanical level.

·

For me it’s between skeletonized dials, integrated bracalet, and diamonds? The interated bracelet I guess I could still go for depending on a watch but the other two are immediate scroll/skip. As for power reserve, I do like to know when to stop winding my watch, I only have one and I don’t have a winder so every time it is its turn to be worn I have to wind it. My other automatics are just best guess, 15-20 winds and hope I didn’t overdo it?

·

Mine have changed with time. My one thing used to be the power reserve on the dial. Once I got a watch with one, I actually liked it. Right now, California Dials are my primary turn off, followed closely by Mercedes hands and "open hearts".

I hate Cali dials they make no sense at all

·

Anything over £1500. 😊.

·

I have one watch with it and I like it, just adds to dial diversity in a collection.
