Weiss for me! 🤙

This is one of the toughest matchups in the first round. Two watchmakers in the truest sense going heads up.

·

Cameron Weiss. USA Brand with excellent quality.

I'll be honest, I have no experience with Atelier Wen. I do with Weiss, though. Amazing quality and customer service. Cameron is doing great things. He deserves all his success. When I go up to Tennessee to visit my bro, I hope to tour the factory.

Yea, I will own one of Weiss' standard issue divers at some point.

Both really are awesome. I own a Standard Field Issue and hope to pick up a Perception from Wen. Check out some vids on Wen. Everyone of those dials is hand done. It really is an art.

I have an L.A. dial Standard Issue Field. I love it. It’s also a favorite of my wife. She likes the simplicity, or something. 😁

I’ve seen some of the AW dials. They are pretty incredible for being hand done and I agree that it’s an art. I’ll give them that.

·

Don't have either in the collection and no plans to purchase. But that dial from Atelier Wen...just fantastic!

·

Should one vote if you really don't have a strong opinion? I think maybe not. I'll sit this one out

·

I voted with my wrist on this one.

What Cameron is doing is absurd on almost all logical levels, except of course for living out his passion as a craftsman and a watchmaker.

It's rare to see people commit to this level on their own. There's little to compare, and even less at his price points.

Weiß for me, nice line up.

·

I have an AW Perception in salmon and I love it. The guilloche is mesmerising and the integrated bracelet quality is great. The brushed finishing across the board is beautiful, overall great wear for me and am looking to get more colourways!

@Cameronweiss is an amazing watch maker and the time he takes with his clients is awesome! I have had the chance to have dinner with him a few times! He is pretty cool dude!

I nominated Atelier Wen (not sure if it was in the lineup before that). The Perception is the latest acquisition. It's also the WRUW for today. So guess what my vote is? They really sweated the details, and got them right; I think they had something to prove. The case has a unique design, is less than 10mm thick, with fine brushing and polished bezel and chamfers. It really sparkles, and wears nicely. The bracelet is similarly well finished, and the clasp has on the fly microadjustment, yet is still reasonably small and discrete. The clasp of the bracelet and rubber strap also have a telescoping arm, which I've never seen before, which allows it to sit small and comfortably on the wrist. They set out to prove that China can produce a compelling luxury watch; I think they succeeded. I don't think they'll go very far in the tournament, but it good to see that the voting is pretty close this round at least.

As one of the only American made watches and hand built, Weiss is interesting. Since they say "American made" on the website, I presume they live up to the Federal Trade Commission's strict standards. However, the designs aren't very interesting, although he seems to have expanded a bit beyond the more or less generic field watch.

Well said.

Weiss is the shit. Cameron is an underrated master of the craft, and his engagement with his community is top tier.

·

Interesting match up. The craftsmanship matchup. I have a lot of respect for what Weiss does because such a small group. But the glass ceiling seems higher for Atelier Wen.

·

Weiss for cool images/style. (Fair use to promote style) not just based on individual model or sample photo but on the overall brand feel.

Have a question as a complete noob.

Do these brands hold value in the long term or are they nice fancy things for today?

·

This one is the hands down best matchup so far. America vs. China(via France). Two terrific stories, two well made watches, very different aesthetics, backed by truly dedicated watch enthusiasts. I really enjoyed exploring both of the histories of these companies, and looking at what true dedication to a craft means. This has been the toughest decision of them all so far...but USA! USA! USA! 🇺🇸

It is a good question Phillipe. Prior to COVID, most brands, even well loved ones, outside of Rolex and a few others in the very high end, usually lost 30-50%. Pretty quick. Even today, it is not that hard to get 20-30% off new watches.

That said, in the smaller/independent/micro space, it really depends. It is generic to say, but some brands have better value retention than others. Folks will always value a well made, nice movement watch. If retention is a factor, one can always go used.

Poll closed for this matchup. Congratulations to Weiss!

What are some good uses marketplaces that are solid with no bs.

In the US, Toppers is my go to for used. They list stuff for sale each week used. After that, I like to use a mix of eBay and Reddit, along with some other stores. WatchRecon does a nice job of aggregating items for sale from private parties. BS will depend on the seller with private deals.

Atelier Wen all the way.

This thing glows like the sun. The guilloché is mesmerizing. Bracelet is super high quality.

Having owned my Atelier Wen Perception for over a year, I still feel excited every time I pick it up to wear. Can't say the same for some of my other watches!
