JLC Reverso: Dress Watch or Sports Watch ?

I have seen posts where people see the Reverso as a dressy to dress watch and I kind of agree on that. I have never worn mine with jeans before (yet). I know that it is originally a sports watch but the perceptions toward it tend to evolve over time. Yet again, some people also a Sub a dress watch now too.

What do you crunchers think?

I agree. I think the watch evolved to be a dress watch. Just like the Cartier Tank and Santos tents to be on the dressier side. I think after Steve Jobs and Apple made it cool to be casual at work. I think it made it ok to wear any watch with a suit. Let alone people wearing an Apple watch with a suit or tuxedo.

Can’t go wrong with a JLC and in particular the Reverso

It is in an uncanny valley where it is a bit too refined to be really casual but the rather utilitarian shape (that elongation for the flippy mechanism can't be unseen) keeps it from being a true elegant dress watch. It's fine for that wide middle of smart casual.

Of course the modern suit was originally called a lounge suit because it was so loose and free compared to the more tightly fitted clothing of the day. The decline never ends. We now have children that can't be made to "dress up" in jeans because they are used to wearing some form of knit pyjamas around.

I wear mine for dressy occasions, with jeans casually, and my favorite, sitting on my couch relaxing!

Can’t really blanket statement that since every model of the Reverso has a different aesthetic and mood. Some are def dress watches but this one is more business casual or casual and wouldn’t be out of place with jeans and even a polo or nice t-shirt. I generally don’t think they are either though . . . They fall somewhere in between.

·

I consider it also a dress watch, but I am sure it will look great wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

·

It's is a sports watch for people that play polo, that's the dressiest sport I know.

You just flip the movement over to from dress to sport. Kind of a Clark Kent/Superman thing but in an armchair scenario.

·

It is the 'orginal' sports watch..for the crazy polo players..

·

Personally I don’t believe in rules dictating which watch to wear when. Now, this is not to say I’ll ever wear an Invicta with a suit but it shouldn’t be frowned upon if someone chooses to do that either.

·

It has a history of been a robust watch that is more than capable of day to day life. It's a watch to be enjoyed re write the rules they are only in you head anyway.

·

It depends on the strap. With a croc it's a dress watch, with suede it can be sporty.

·

It’s a sporty dress watch, but only if you switch that leather strap to something more casual.

·

There are many ways to match dressier watches with casual clothes. Just depends whether you want to go the Walmart couture route or actually try style it up a bit 😂🤌

Like the Santos, it started as a sport, but I’d put both firmly in the dress category now. Does one actually need to actually dress up to wear? Big no, wear with whatever floats your boat, but if you ask the average no. Watch person, it’s a dress watch.
