Vintage watches

Hi crunchers👋. Just sharing some watches that were passed down to me. Thinking of getting them repaired but I think the repair cost will get me a new Tudor Black Bay😅

From left:

  1. Omega De Ville (circa late 1960s)

  2. Longines Ultra Chron LUC1 (circa 1970s) this one is quite cool-monobloc case with a hi-beat movement. Size would be quite big for that era, 40mm

  3. Omega Seamaster 1980s. 35mm. This Seamaster model is not meant to be near the sea…

Both the Omega De Ville and the Longines were from my late paternal and maternal granddads. And the Seamaster my dad’s long service award watch.

What would you guys do? Sell them? Keep them as remembrance watches as they are? Or service them so that they work? I don’t think I’ll ever wear them as and even if I do, it’ll be once or twice a year.

I'd keep them or give them to someone for sentimental reasons. Sounds like you're not hard up for cash or watches but selling or fixing are also reasonable. There's actually another option too: modding. Anyway, not the worst problem to have.

As my present self, I would probably get the DeVille serviced and store the Longines & Seamaster for a year or so, get one serviced & then get the other serviced a year or so later.

But, you don't seem to value them as much as getting a new watch with a blank slate, so if I were you, I'd probably end up selling them to get me closer to that new watch.

That was what I was thinking- getting the De Ville serviced as I think if there was a need for a dressier occasion, that watch will be it. Plus it looks the coolest and I don’t have a dress gold watch.

I probably should put selling as an option as I do value them but rather the question should be whether I should keep them as it is or have them serviced. Servicing will cost a bomb and I wouldn’t be wearing them much.

Most probably pass them down to my son. I love watches but I also don’t want to spend too much servicing them and not wearing them

Get them all serviced. An independent watchmaker will be more affordable than the manufacturer. If it's just a disassembly, clean, reassemble and lube it should cost no more than any other watch. Obviously, if new parts are needed that will increase the cost.

·

Yeah, get one serviced per year.

·

I would service all three and wear them regularly. They are all great watches. Your family has good taste.

·

I think if you will enjoy wearing them they are keepers. If you won't then I might pick once since they were handed down. The Omegas stand out.

·

I think that they all look much better than the current models offered by Longines and Omega. The De Ville is absolutely deserving a service and repair.

Maybe keep the other two aside and send them for service in a year or two?

·

Well you'll never be able to replace em.... Service you favorite and see how it goes/how you feel.

Like all three. But the deville needs a different strap imo

·

I’d keep them! The deville is AMAZING!

·

Service them and wear them, nice looking watches. Save up for the Tudor.

·

I would never sell a family watch. I consider it my responsibility to care for and add to the collection.

·

Service them. They are great watches, but more importantly tie to family history.

Good suggestion

I’m personally drawn to the De ville! Surprisingly it’s in great condition as well (exterior). But of course it stopped ticking

That’s true. 👍

Yeah the De Ville definitely definitely stands out and I actually can picture myself wearing it. Good suggestion 🙏

Any strap suggestions for the De Ville? Would appreciate some recommendations 😊
