Why do I like this ?

Over-priced, likely issues with alignment of bezel, pot luck if it keeps good time. Not to mention I'll probably have to change straps... But even while I'm looking at watches 10x the price I keep coming back to the Alpinist and baby alpinist. This limited edition my new fave but still haven't pulled the trigger!

This hobby makes no sense but I guess you like what you like

I feel your pain bro!! I'm a bit gun shy on a seiko too🍻

·

Same boat, I have been recommending and drooling over this since it was announced.  Looking forward to it regardless.

Overpriced and QC-problems are overshadowed but the Secret Sauce that Seiko lubricate their watches with that makes us enthusiasts gather to their new releases like cats to catnip...

Nope.  As nice as it looks, can't overshadowed their reputation for QC & post sales service issues.  Other similar nice pieces from other manufacturers that don't come with these baggage.

Sometimes the heart wants what it wants. Hey, if you can find one for the right price, why not? The Baby Alpinists are really cool. I would never pay 1,000 USD or more for one (or for any Seiko with a 6R movement for that matter), but at 500 dollars or less the temptation to pull the trigger becomes a lot stronger and I'm more willing to put up with a watch that might be running 20 seconds fast out of the box.

Having to adjust a watch every other day is annoying, but not necessarily a deal breaker for me. I have other watches that satisfy my need for precision.

Right, the internal bezel turns with no clicks, so there's nothing to misalign. I have like half a dozen Seikos, including an Alpinist (SARB017). None are divers, none have clicking bezels, and I haven't had an issue with any of them.

·

Seiko just does enough right with this watch that you can't say no.

·

Because watches aren't a list of specs.  With Seiko, you're paying for design.  Dial design, proportions, the entire thing.  Seiko does it better than everyone in its price category and better than most in the category above.

I think that's why most of us love Seiko and own Seiko, even if we also think it's too pricey.  They know how to tug at the heart strings. For better or worse, that has real value.

·

I have the most logical explanation!!

It’s SHINeeeeeeeey!!!

Weirdly if you really think about it the gif above has some deep meaning to this watch addiction … ok ok let me not smoke and post… good night ladies !!

·

I love it myself. I saw this yesterday and was like, gotta have it.  Then I saw the price and backed off.

·

I have the OG green alpinist with the black date wheel and it's one of those watches I don't wear much but am just happy is in my collection.

This design just looks so right 👌

Since the bezel is infinitely mobile, you don't have to worry about alignment.

·

that is sexy

still want a green gold.......shoulda when they were cheap

Thanks - helpful. Sure ill end up with one at some point... Just a matter of when

Yes Seiko ownership can be frustrating and pleasurable at the same time. They are definitely the “Kings” of design.

·

Personally, I have never regretted a Seiko purchase. In the few cases that there was an issue, I was able to fix it.

If you like the Alpinist, I would go for it, even if you need to spend a few bucks to regulate it, or the few minutes to regulate it yourself.

·

I’m not a fan of the Alpinist but this dial with the blue markers and hands looks great!  I feel your pain considering all of Seiko’s QC issues but they do have that secret sauce that keeps us enthusiasts coming back hahaha

·

love the dial  but could they have color matched the dial ? or even a step further match the dial with the same finish too. I'm knit picking with that but would have been a nice touch.
