On Discontinued Watches…

In 2019 I picked up the Tudor North Flag at the Schullin retailer in Vienna. I researched for weeks before making the decision and I have not regretted a single day after that purchase. Now I have happy thoughts of exploring cobblestone streets in Vienna and having the amazing pancakes at Hotel Imperial with my wife every time I put it on. A short time later the North Flag was discontinued and I suddenly found myself with a very collectible piece. I’ve been on a roll with buying watches that are soon discontinued after buying them. Most notably my Rolex OP 39, my Omega Railmaster and of course this Tudor North Flag. I love finding those hidden gems that few others are wearing, and because of that a discontinuation was not surprising for this case. No one pays attention to my watches and I have rarely received compliments about them in public. However whenever I walk into an AD with my North Flag, it’s the sales personnel that get really interested in it and I have been frequently asked by them for a photo of it. I love it when the sales staff are just as enthusiastic about watches as I am and a good conversation can begin. This is the only watch I own that I can put on a winder and have zero fears about overwinding, it just tells me when the tank is full with its power reserve. Have you bought any watches that are now discontinued and are patting yourself on the back about how collectible they are now?

This is the only Tudor that interests me. Nice pickup. I don't think about how collectable a watch is, I just think about how much I'll enjoy it. No one pays attention to my watches, hidden gem or "hype" watch, so that's not a factor in my purchase decisions either.

We’re on the same page here. Buy a watch that make you smile whenever you wear it right? Nothing else matters.

Dude. This is the only watch I hope Rolex brings back. Just awesome.

·

There was a used one for sale at my GS AD two weeks ago when I stopped by. I was very tempted.

My lucky find from two days back , got it brand new at AD. Omega Seamaster 1948 70th Anniversary Limited Edition, No. 372 of 1948 pieces from 2018. Warranty started Feb 16th 2024, my name on a paperwork. Discontinued. Don’t care about resale price, it stays with me permanently.

PS. Tudor Ranger is still my favourite. Love this ugly duckling to death. Still readily available, no one will ask about it. Couldn’t care less… ❤️😎

I wish I knew about this model when it was released. Could have picked one up at retail. 3K plus now. Ah, the psychology of rarity eh?

What!? A fellow North Flag owner! We are a rare breed. Congrats!

·

For me too, this is the Tudor that I like the most. What a nice design! I don't understand why they discontinued it. It look odd compared with other Tudor. Maybe they through it wa the black sheep of the family?

Totally agree. Why do you think other Tudors don’t interest you? I’m a little over the abundance of Black Bays but some models do grab me.

Good question. I probably spoke too broadly as there are some other models I think aren't bad. Aside from the NF, some Heritage Chronos and the BB Pro are kind of sporty which I like. I respect Tudor.

However, I got into Rolex first and always felt Tudor pushed on me by the watch world and when at ADs/boutiques. When I look at the lineup, nothing really grabs me (just looked again lol). The design language feels a bit drab to me and I feel some level of sameness among the models. I dislike the Snowflake hour hand too.

I really like that watch stand! Where’s can I find one like that?

Watchpod stand that I think you might be able to find on Amazon. Pretty decent stand for watches with a bracelet.

Awesome to see this other than in marketing photos. Thanks for sharing this with us.

·

My Turquoise OP 41. I would share a picture but it's in a safe deposit box at the bank.

·

His watch has it's own chair, thats cute.

·

The Tudor North Flag is the only Tudor that's stayed in my collection so far! It's definitely their most interesting contemporary model and I hope there's a re-release in the near future!

I get that, I think Tudor’s been made to fill a role of sportier, cheaper Rolex to preserve the image and exclusivity of the main brand. I think the Pro is pretty neat, but it can’t quite shake the Explorer 2.

Personally, I love the Pelagos 39, but I wish they’d make a modern equivalent to the Oyster Prince. Sportier than an OP, and with a cheaper movement, with enough variety to separate from the Explorer 1

·

Gutted I missed out on the North Flag, for me it's head and shoulders above anything else Tudor have made. Lovely watch 😍

·

Definitely one of my favorite Tudors. I hate that they discontinued it

No, it can't touch the Explorer II! That's my favorite and most worn watch!

I agree, I just think the styles are too close for comfort. I wish the Tudor had a different complication, bezel, or something to distinguish it more
