Best Watch for the Climate Apocalypse

Many people believe we are headed toward a global collapse of human civilization as a direct or indirect result of anthropogenic climate change.  I don't want to make light of the crisis but given that this is a watch forum, what watch would you want on your arm when the lights go out?

Folks say there are few situations that a gold Rolex won't get you out of, but I think for practical purposes I'll stick with one of my favourite Tudor subs instead.

What o'clock it is will probably be the least of our concerns when the sh*t starts to come down hard, but nonetheless, what survival watch would you carry into the coming dark age?

🙄 😮 😊

Recently added the Seiko SNE573 to the collection and it would definitely be my pick. Solar, sapphire crystal, divers 200m, 38.5mm case x 11mm x 46mm lug to lug, and an absolute strap monster. Super comfortable, unobtrusive, and (theoretically) maintenance free! Its like a lite version of the SPB143 with the case shape.

Love the sundial, except you're assuming we'll still be able to go out in the sun.  😎

Part of the reason I'd go with the Tudor is the ETA motor - lots of parts around and any decent repair guy can work on 'em with one eye closed.

Come on!  It's gotta be the G-Shock, right?

It certainly looks the part.

But I hope it's the solar version, or bring extra batteries - you might even be able to use them as money.

Great choice.  As long as there's no massive electromagnetic pulse from the nuclear satellite crash it'll be fine.  🙄

Pick your favourite watch for sure, but there's no coming climate crisis.  It's a man-made hoax is what it is.

My Seiko Arnie begs to differ.  😊

😠  Nobody's gonna argue with Arnie.

😠  A good guy to have on our team when the going gets tough.

Definitely a solar watch.

Oh my!  I haven't seen that Citizen GMT with the blue rehaut before.  A knockout beauty.

👍😍👍

My old solar watches are getting weaker and weaker as the battery is less able to hold a charge.
My grandpas automatic from the 50s tics on bravely.  So I’d be a bit wary of going solar as final choice.

Ive heard spring drive is very robust and long lived so I’d probably take a flyer on that.  But couldn’t fault anyone choosing a sturdy automatic diver.  Maybe the 8L35 Tuna Can 😀

A Citizen Ray Mears. Super Titanium case. Light as a feather. No seperate case back ( forgotten what the term is!) 300m water resistant. Eco drive. Enough said?

The best G-Shock ever, DLC coating, suspension system, everything you see as a decoration in other G-Shocks is real on this one, and so and so...

It's called Mr. G, and it can be yours for only $4000.00!

The word is 'monocoque'.  A truly great watch!

I've had two Seiko Solar watches totally crap out on me after 2-3 years. Both had plenty of light at all times and were worn regularly outside. I have so little faith in Solar Seikos these days I will actually never buy another. And I say all of this as a total Seiko fan who owns a ton of Seiko. Your mileage might vary, and I hope it does in this apocalypse scenario! I'll stick with automatic.

It would have to be an Eco-Drive.

So many votes for the eco-drives.

But I'm not convinced.  I'm sticking with a tried and true Automatic.  😊

Oh well.  Everyone looks out their own window.  😊

·

OMG, looks like it could control more than the weather - maybe switch the planet's axis.

👍

·

I’ll take a Seiko Spring Drive with g-shock cushioning in a titanium Tudor case with some of Sinn’s special technologies thrown in.

That sounds like a watch I'd go for too.

Please let me know when you track it down.  😎

Definitely my Casio MT-G...Solar Battery, GPS, Atomic Timekeeping and Bluetooth...Sapphire and Titanium...

Is this watch a real thing? Looks totally Sci Fi! I'm about to look it up!

LMAO! Something tells me you're not a scientist...

·

Yes thank you! I did my home work! They went out of business for a while. Definitely out of my budget though!

·

Great choice, I was just thinking of what watch has the two hands in the sub dial!

But during the apocalypse,  will the atomic clock be maintained?

·
JJMM1983

Definitely a solar watch.

You took my answer. That is the nicest Citizen I have ever seen, is it yours?

·

For a fictitious movie event, I presume it would have to be a Hamilton. If I have to get a Hamilton, it'll probably be a Khaki Pilot Pioneer.

The Citizen Eco-Drive in Duratect Titanium is a noble choice and certainly elegant enough, but you must ask yourself: will the survivors really want to remember the before times, when our leaders, the reckless corporate lackeys, squandered our healthy climatic inheritance?

As Premier Nikita Kruschev famously intoned regarding an alternate catastrophic future: "the living will envy the dead."  😮 🥺 🙄

<bangs shoe on table> They will marvel at the ticking seconds hand and bow down before it with awe and trembling. They will know the hour and the day (but maybe forget the year?), and the night the date jumps three days will be particularly portentous.

<bangs shoe on table>  that's a good one.  😀

Of course!

There'll be an eco-drive cult worshiping Citizen with you the high priest of Duratect.

🥺 🥺 🥺

·

Automatic or solar, 200m or more waterressist, multiple functions. Seiko Arnie or a Metal G-Shock square w/solar?

·

I’m going to stay classy! At least I’ll have 6 years battery life! and who want to know the time at night its night ! Lol
