Any watch brands that are well-liked or popular that just don’t do it for you?

For me I don’t care for the following: Tudor (boring and uninspiring for the price), Christopher Ward (can’t get past that logo) and IWC (find most of their dials to be cluttered and busy). I have also recently realized that I am not a fan of field watches and such with 1 - 12 numbers on the dial as I prefer indices. Just one of my taste quirks! Watch preferences are so subjective!

I’m going to put it out there…the 500 pound Gorilla of a watch company that shall not be named

·

I’m not a fan of Bauhaus design so Nomos and most Junghans watches do nothing for me.

·

Anything with an over complex dial like many Brietling and most GShock. Just not my thing but no disrespect.

·

IWC, Christopher Ward, Tudor, Breitling.

·

I agree with Tudor. I don't like G-Shocks when I get more from a Pro-Trek. Brew and Panerai don't do anything for me, and I find the Hamilton Khaki Fields boring. Orient I don't like because of the logo on the dial.

·

Definitely Cartier for me. Too small and too feminine. Also too many quartz options as if they were pure fashion watches.

·

Sinn, ALS, modern Hamilton, Omega. Let me capitalize OMEGA.

I understand your point but not all Cartiers are like that. This one is very beefy, at 42mm:

Not trying to change your mind, just FYI. 👍

Agree with @Matt84 on anything Bauhaus (yawn…), also not super keen on the Gerald Genta aesthetic and most Lacos. There, that kinda felt good!

Belated welcome to the Crunch and perhaps see you at our frequent Bay Area meetups… 🤙

·

Not a fan at all of the Tudor snowflake hour hand. Also not a fan of the Orient logo.

·

Rolex leaves me indifferent 🤷🏻‍♂️. I cannot warm up with Seiko, even less with Grand Seiko. I have respect but no emotions for them. Didn't find an appealing square watch other than full metal G-Shock yet. (Though the square G-Shock comes with eight corners 😉.) Bracelets usually break the deal for me with only very few exceptions.

·

When I really want to sleep I just imagine a certain teacher of mine who shan't be named wearing a Tudor Black Bay 58. It usually works.

I have seen more interesting things at the white paint and unseasoned chicken shop.

Not hating on anyone that has one, they're marvelous watches, but so good that, in my eyes, have effectively no soul. It's the obvious choice, and I am a contrarian.

·

Don't get me started. I'll put it this way. I only have a handful of brands that I collect that fill my criteria and everyone else I really don't care for.

Same to me.

·

Rolex, Tudor, Hublot, oris,,,theres quite a few more,,,but thats enough negativity for one day 🙄

·

Tudor (which just clearly looks like a less finished version of Rolex watches), IWC (cases too big and too busy also), Omega to some extent (a lot of their watches just look ugly to me even though I do like a few of them a lot). Vacheron I used to love and now find their watches very meh even if they were sold 1/3 of the price. Same with AP.

·

Omega, Rolex, Tudor, all the big bois who's watches look like they're designed by comitee.

·

I enter a state of shock and i start questioning humanity's comon sense, when i see that something in form of a showel is called snowflake...

·

Is Hublot well liked or popular? Anyway, can’t stand them (or perhaps it’s the people I know who wears them!!)..

I don’t get AP, VC, RM, Patek and the likes either.

I also don’t like most haute-horlogerie brands. Yes, great craftsmanship and all. Yes, they have their place but even if I had that kind of money, I wouldn’t even think of owning one of those.

Alright, alright, having that kind of money to spend on a watch, I’d get my grail: A Lange One lumen… 😅

·

Am I allowed to say Seiko? Feels like about as broad of a category to dislike as there is, but they don't really work for me. Some of the dressier pieces look alright to me, but I don't wear dress watches. Then the sports watches don't personally work for me, especially their indices on divers.

Other than that, Tudor is a bit of a kick in the balls for me because I like a lot about how they design their watches but the snowflake disqualifies them.

·

Christopher Ward. I see online that apparently they are popular in the budget segment, but I just can't stand them.

·

Interesting to me, after reading all the posts, that most that "just don't do it" are on the more expensive end. Anyway, Grand Seiko is another I don't "get". To each their own I suppose.

·

Rolex (everything as hyped up as these leaves me cold as well as the „game“ you’d have to play in order to get one at retail. Every microbrand or dollar store watch has a more appealing caseback but that’s just my opinion)

Cartier (roman numerals, squared, non-aligned screws on the Santos, the crown… nothing appeals to me really…)

Tudor (the hour hands are ridiculous. Either you have a „snowflake“ hand (that would be the ugliest snowflake that ever touched ground) or a buttplug).

I could continue but for me, I think I found my favorites. Not by brand but by model.

Even though I have two GS, I have the ones I liked most. Even with GS I could name the White birch or any other model with a comically large hour hand in contrast to a delicate dauphine minute hand, that just leave me indifferent.

I think it’s more about the models instead of brands. The three up top are, however, brands (and models) I just can’t fathom…

I suppose there isn’t enough old people in the magazine “ Bride Monthly “ for you Granpa Simpson lol 😂

Lol

If I had to talk about what I do love: Zenith I think has been doing an amazing job. Rolex same. Jaeger with their polaris mariner: stunning.

Breitling really nice designs although I am a bit on the fence with their movements

·

MeisterSinger, for their one hand watches. Why? GMTs and Chronographs, anything with pushers, regardless of brand (mine will all go). Mercedes-tipped hour hands. Diamond encrusted blingy watches. Bauhaus minimalism. Junghans.

  • Nomos. Yeah, OK, the Bauhaus aesthetic is cool, but there's something about the way they do it that makes them feel Skagen-ish. The idiotic font, for one, thought far be it from just that.

  • Oris. I know people love them, but to me, their standard line-up is ridiculously overpriced and equipped with movements of a grade really subpar for the money. On some models, like the Pointer Date with an in-house movement, the dial looks like a Bombay repaint job. And I just don't get their attempts at high horology, looks kind of funny coming from a jumped-up manufacturer of pin-lever "wonders." And that Kermit horror, I'd rather sit on a porcupine than wear that.

  • Meistersinger. I like the concept of a jump-hour watch or a "regulator," but one-hand watches are simply impractical. Indication of time to the nearest 5-15 minutes just doesn't cut it.

  • Seiko. Especially the models with the 6R movements that replaced the 6R15. The 6R35 is absolutely notorious for bad performance. "Snowstorms" on the Timegrapher, performance deteriorating in a matter of months, and so on. It's just not what it used to be.

  • AnOrdain. To me, their design looks like something fit for a wall clock in an Irish pub.

  • Studio Underd0g. Their designs give me a visual diabetes.

  • Baltic. Far too pricey for run-of-the-mill Miyota and Sea-Gull movements.

  • Kurono. Way overpriced, even sans import duties.

  • Serica. Their knowingly using of the defective Soprod Newton and BS explanations for its malfunctions simply leave me speechless. Unless they haven't tested it (unlikely), they knew full well that it's trash.

·

Aside from the occasional special edition, I don't really care for Seiko, Grand Seiko and most of the other large Japanese watch brands.

I'm usually a big fan of anything japan so it's a bummer i can't get into their watches...

I do love the work of some of their independent brands. Naoya Hida and especially Kurono (but aside from the logo their dials look more swiss than Japanese).

·

Audemars Pigeut, Tudor, Hublot, Panerai, Richard Mille, Bell & Ross, Jacob & Co, Tag Heuer, Sinn, Junghans, Nomos, Bauhaus, Invicta and last but not least.... ROLEX. The only Rolex I've ever liked was the Cellini Moonphase, which they ofcourse had to go and discontinue for some damned reason.

·

It would have to be ( sadly) the Rolex brand, my first proper watch was a Rolex air king and I loved it, however the brand has since changed and was incredibly difficult to purchase any off their new products! personally I feel that their products are fantastic but the way it’s conducted itself business wise have been well…. Lacking! But hay I am over it, onto bigger & better things 😊
