“Seitona!”

Bought this on an impulse! What can I say? This is the 39mm version of the Seiko prospex speed timer chronograph. I have been looking at this for a year, but could not make a decision. Then the 41 mm version came out with the red hand, which delayed my decision even further. I have a 7 inch wrist and I must say the wearability on this is “almost” perfect. Zero “hang” on the lug length, which makes this a comfortable, good looking time piece. It feels custom made for my wrist, convincing me I made the right choice. Two minor things, that I should mention. I do not like the date window. I think it is pointless on this watch, and throws off, what would otherwise be, perfect symmetry. Fortunately, it is small enough, I don’t really notice it. The other thing is the bracelet. It only has two “minor” adjustments on the clasp, can really use a third. Two links have been taken out for the almost “perfect” fit..I used the minor adjustment but can feel the ever so slight looseness, which is fine because of my wrist swelling during the day. Would really prefer a higher end bracelet, with micro adjustments that I could make on the go adjusts without a tool. Other than that, I like the crisp white of the dial, with the contrast of the ebony black, it looks even better in the metal. I think this watch is appropriately quartz (especially for the price). For whatever reason quartz doesn’t bother me on chronographs. If I am being honest, that new mechanical Tissot, would have been in the running for my decision, even at $1,700, if is was 2mm smaller in dial width, and a shorter lug length. But overall, so happy to have the impulse to purchase this!

You can buy a clasp on AliExpress to fix the looseness issue, with as many adjustment holes as you want, or even an on-the-fly ratcheting extension for the summer. 👍

·

Uncle straps also sells clasps for it for about $12. They also have half links if you needed that. Their clasp did the trick for me and is a great match to the bracelet.

There are also full bracelets made for the watch. Lots of options. It’s a great grab and go solar quartz 👌

Or you can get a Strapcode replacement bracelet. I got the jubilee.

Agree that the date is a weak point, buried so deep as to be illegible from most angles. I swapped the bracelet for an inexpensive rally strap and like the look. Overall, I think it’s a sharp looking piece and a great size.

Mines is on weekly rotation. Love it. 39 is my magic number when it comes to feel on the wrist. It’s a great watch.. 👍🏼👍🏼

Great minds think alike! Would you mind sharing where you got your's from? I ordered mine off AliExpress; wouldn't mind a higher quality one

I bought a half link from Uncle Straps which has worked wonders.

This watch is goated. Although a Seiko may not be collected or touted like Rolex or Omega or more expensive names the SSC813 will go down in the history books.

Great looking, great value watch.

But do the purpleish sub dials bother you? They did me and that was one of the reasons I sold mine.

·

Great watch. Had a similar thing with the bracelet on my iceblue Seiko chronograph. Changed the clasp for one I had laying around with more micro adjustment holes. Fits perfect now👌🧊

Actually they aren't as prominent when worn as in pictures .. rarely u see the purple under direct sun.. otherwise for me it didn't bother (yet)

I bought the other variant but I sold it since I could not stand the date window, it was a shame since the overall watch is really good. The date window it's really annoying in the speedtimers, it looks like a hole. I bought a black series speedtimer since the date window it's invisible since the whole watch it's black 😁

Just the clasp?

Awesome! I will check them out! I needed a half link for my Casio “duro” I was modifying it from the strap to a bracelet (from Ali express) but am about a half link short…do you think they would have one for those?

They don’t bother me at all. That was the first think I was curious about. Indoors, they looked black, checked in direct sunlight, still looked black, I tried every angle, and caught a glimpse of a little bit of “purpleish”. Unless I am color blind it isn’t an issue for me. In fact, one of my favorite parts of the watch is the high contrast of the pure white dial with the deep black. Too many other benefits of the watch, and if I had to look that hard for a hint of purple!? It’s all good. Maybe they addressed the issue? After all, this version came out almost three years ago.

I never knew you could just replace the clasp! I am glad I mentioned this.

Sure, give it a try. As far as I know there are also aftermarket clasps on ebay or ali, even with quick adjustment systems implemented

I don’t know about that one. But I do know that island watch sells stuff for the duro. I bought a full bracelet from Mark for it and it’s really great. You might try there
