Does anybody else do this?

Not strictly watch related so apologies. WC being one of the more friendly and less aggressive watch forums I find that when commenting on a question, or somebodies new watch etc. I will often look at their profile (to see their watches mostly) and if location is visible, I will sometimes open up Google or Bing maps to find out where that place is and have a look see at the photos of their hometown. Especially if I have never heard of the place before.

Do not worry I am not a stalker, I just find it interesting to see what trends are out there around the world. Its also great to see what my Euro cousins are buying, or what somebody just bought in Mumbai, and that Californians like Casio as much as me.

Its probably to do with my love of travel documentaries but throws in watches to the mix. As well as its nice to connect with people from all over the world and realise in spite of our differences we have watches in common.

The interesting world of watches huh !

Thanks. I looked up Northern Virginia on Wiki and found that one of my wish list places is there. Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, https://airandspace.si.edu/visit/udvar-hazy-center

Stalker? I was thinking burglar … 😏

I have trouble getting into my house at times, and I have the keys !

·

I have to confess. I will look at profiles too. Location, previous WRUW pictures, profile and background images and I will read the bio. Not to be a stalker but to see if we share other points in common.

Cars and watches are my passion. Many of us share these passions. It's known that cars and watches usually go together. I noticed that people who are generally into cars are into watches, but people who are into watches are not necessarily into cars.

For instance, we share a busted right knee.

·

I do it all of the time. I usually leads me to either not comment or tone down what I was going to say. I don't want to scare someone away.

I would go look up The Wirral, but know enough about it to not bother!

I jest, I come from near Wrexham originally, so not too far away.

I'll definitely look at a profile if I see they have a watch I like, say from the WRUW for the day. I feel like if the person has Watch A that I like, they may also have other i'd be interested in and might open up brands or models I'd not previously considered.

Ahh Wrexham what a year they have had, town looks jumping. I stay at Overton often so know Wrexham well ! LOVE the Farer btw.

The Wirral; you have my condolences. 😉God's own country here down in Cornwall, exept during April and September when the tourists arrive and then God goes on holiday.

Made that mistake once in my caravan ! Man I miss those (proper) pasties.

I have a torn meniscus from twisting my leg and found relief with a cross brace. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B074K84K81/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1

Same. Torn ACLs (yes plural, there is one per knee) and torn miniscus (right knee).

It's crazy how a watch forum and a discussion about stalking people turned into an injury report! I love this place!!

Do that all the time Dave, its a virtual holiday and you know one of the locals might have the same watch as you do ! Food menus the best !

Ok everyone, no judgement please!! I watch food and travel shows to taste and visit from home. Sometimes I will making the foods I see or get inspired by what they cook. 😊

·

I've definitely stalked before commenting especially if I'm intending to use an uncommon regional descriptor (d-bag), obscure geographic reference (boonies) or subtle snark (God Bless his little heart) and oh boy if they're British because I get to use my beloved "whilst" which is as rare as hen's teeth here in Lala Land.

Applaud your curiosity and openness to finding out about new things and cultures. As a Californian, I will tell you not all of us are tanned surfer hippies. In fact, where I live the water is always about 50F so I dislike beaches.

Broken Fibula ! I would like to say did it rescuing a school bus out of control full of screaming children, but it was wet grass !

It's always an unfortunate accident. I would love to say that my knee injuries happened while skiing in the Alps and jumping off a cliff... But they happened while gooffing around at small hills near where I live.

Paul, if you want to travel in my area, here's where my first ACL injury happened: https://www.tremblant.ca/things-to-do/skiing

My second ACL: https://www.panoramaresort.com/

And last but not least, my miniscus (while teaching my girlfriend to ski): https://www.sommets.com/en/ski-mountains/sommet-olympia/

Fun times had by all.

Thanks, hope I am not coming across as a stalker ! Just like looking at places around the world on maps and the location of WC members especially, if not been there, gives me inspiration.

Thanks ! That place is on my wish list for sure. Not wearing a white Casio G on the slopes though, if I lost it would have to wait for spring.

·

Spring in Quebec is very unpredictable. Some years we'll have cold and snow storms until mid April. Other years, like this year, we have summer heats in March where all the snow melts rapidly and causes flooding. It's really hit or miss for spring skiing. If you did lose your white G, you wouldn't have had to wait long this year to find it again.

I only check after the fact when they don't get the pop culture reference or have never heard of an Argos catalogue. Sadly, there are Brits now who also don't get many of the cultural references and have never seen an Argos catalogue ("The Book of Dreams") either. 😢

Internet is great, but I do like an Argos catalogue not forgetting Screwfix either.

My kids used to mark the toys in the Argos catalogue for their Christmas wishes 😂😂😂

You’ve just brought a lovely memory back there thank you 👍🏻

·

Yep I do the same, I’m into facts so any detail is fine by me, good harmless fun!👍🏻

·

Like many things… drinking beer… appreciating art… laughing at comedy… whatever… a love of watches, and the way we interact with them shows us a universal commonality with people from all over the world, and reminds us how we’re all more similar than we even imagine.
