Tough, Iconic, Truly Indestructible?

Have you ever broken a G-Shock?

If so how?

Let’s share some G-Shock stories, tales of destruction and/or survival.

I've never had one til recently, so super interested in this (if any have been destroyed)

·

I haven't broken one myself, despite dropping it numerous times and banging it around. Dave on Just the Watch did a funny video with his kids trying to destroy a G Shock.

There are lots of other ones on YouTube, but this one is pretty funny.

Will definitely give it a watch (pardon the pun)

You will appreciate the tear away feature of the watch pins if you ever get it caught on machinery. They don't even leave a red mark.

·

My toddler plays with my G-Shock. Biting, smashing into bathroom tiles and so on. Not a mark 🤣

·

Back in the early 90s had one took some nasty scrape and scratch marks from a bad bike fall. It worked well with no problem until I gave it away. I really knew then from that point those watches are truly true G!

·

The bracelet broke after one a few months, after the bracelet got stuck. Not only did it rupture but also the little holes on the watch itself were torn through. Dealer couldn't fix it.

·

I wish I could tell a better story, but the way I managed to break the bezel on my G was by bending the straps back to change the battery.

However, it served me well for about 8 years. Cold, heat, sunscreen, soap, mild chemicals, dirt and a daily ”not giving a f’k mentality“ finally managed to get to the resin.

Never broken a gshock, and this may seem like a not too remarkable story, but I like to throw it across the room whenever I inevitably get the "your phone is better" spiel. Ive done this several times over the last few months and not so much as a scratch

·

The only time I "broke" it was when the battery died 🫡

Haven't managed to break one yet, but my Baby-G is a beast.

As part of my job I look after people with learning disabilities in the community. Back at the end of 2020 when we started to roll out the covid vaccine I went out to give my patients their vaccines at home. One chap was particularly not keen on needles. He didn't have the ability to understand what was going on or why we wanted to stick this needle in his arm. He was a big chap and his parents pretty elderly, so if he didn't want it done there was no way to force the issue. The trick in the end was giving him my watch to mess about with while I sneaked a swift needle in the arm. It got some pretty brutal treatment that day but did me proud.

That’s a great story, well done 👍

Also, amazing art work yet again. I need one of these as my phone background.

I like to throw mine across the room (or a slightly gentler version of the famous Rob Gronkowski football spike) whenever I show people my G Shocks! Or just to make my girlfriend laugh. She’s a huge G Shock fan (my wallet is thankful she’s not a Rolex fan!) so she gets a kick out of being rough with the watches.

Yes, I’ve broken one. I dropped my DW-5600 off the 8th floor of a parking garage onto asphalt… for science. My hypothesis: G-Shocks are rated for a 10 meter drop. I thought it reached terminal velocity in just a 10 meter drop, so it wouldn’t make a difference whether it’s 10 meters or 100 meters. I did a test drop from the 3rd floor and not even a scratch! It was perfect! Went all the way to the 8th floor and SPLAT! Internal bleeding from the LCD screen. Filled entirely with black, but the exterior of the watch was fine! Just had to re-assemble the buckle since it fell apart like Mr. Potato Head, but it was all good.

I did the calculations, but man am I bad at math.

I wear one in a restaurant kitchen, so it gets banged on stainless steel surfaces subjected to extreme temperatures and steam. It's been fully submerged in grease, dish water, sauces, broths, brines and blood, wash it with soap like it's part of my hands. This watch won't die.

posted on another thread, not exactly broken, but damaged when i crashed during a local mountain bike race… pretty much went over the bar while going downhill 😂🤣

·

The good news you can get a new mod case and you back on the road again.

·

I've killed one, a 5600 of some sort, in a mountain bike crash, qualifying run in a downhill race.

I at least went on to win the actual race the next day?
