6900 vs 5610

Okay we can all agree that the 5600 is the most iconic gshock but I wanna know why the 6900 is more popular with everybody vs the 5600?

I would say it's because the 6900 has a bit more going on with the design than the 5600. Personally my preference is the 5600 but I like watches that are fairly subdued but still interesting to look at. I would say the 5600 is more low profile and more understated but not boring in my opinion. However the 6900 definitely pops a lot more and has a more complicated looking dial. Which also gives designers a bit more to work with which is why it seems to be the most popular for custom or collaboration limited releases.

That's my guess anyways😅

Agree, I think its the variety and collaborations. Also it looks different compared to your standard casio. Having said that, I own the 6900 and wished the screen was bigger and the lug to lug smaller.

Is the 6900 more popular? If so I can only imagine it’s because there are so many tasteless people in the world.

·

Old school, mp5, BDU's, no plate carrier, iron sights, pilot gloves SEAL? 5600

New school, full sleeves ink, plate carrier, Crye's, mk18 sbr with hi rise mount, passive aiming, Mechanix gloves, Multicam SEAL? 6900

And to add, both are extremely capable, tough, and cool looking.

Ive never really had a look at a 6900 before, feels like I am going to be opening a can of worms when I start now. Any significant models of the 6900 worth looking at?

I drew this back in the 80´s , i was just a kid, lusting for one of these....

Image

40 years later, I own one, among other 20 watches... and i do wear it a LOT !!!🥰

·

I really like the 6900, but I found it uncomfortable to wear, it sat high on my wrist and felt way too heavy even for a g-shock, the 5600 is classic looking, and in my opinion even more comfortable than the Casioak, 6900 has more fun designs, and I love that G button

5600 is king but...

It’s bigger on the wrist Fits great

I concur. 2100 #gshock is the best of both worlds. Solar charge, Bluetooth connectivity (in this variation), basically the most functional GMT ever with the world timer function, etc.

I have the answer! "The GW6900-1 has 31 time zones for world time, while the GWM5610-1 has 29, and both have 48 cities. The additional time zones on the GW6900 are UTC+5.75 for Kathmandu (KTM) in Nepal and UTC-2 for Fernando de Noronha (FEN) in Brazil, and the cities of Miami and Toronto are omitted (as they are the same time zone as New York)." You gotta have Kathmandu, man!

Ok, joke joke. It came from this nice article breaking down the differences. Personally, I got for the square g shock due to nostalgia for the original design.

Primarily, the size, people like bigger watches. In my opinion, the 6900 buttons are easier to access compared to 5600, but 5600 sits well on the wrist with it's thinness compares to the flopping around 6900.

I agree, I wear my 5610 the most but if I were to need to wear gloves I would break out my 6900. Or I do kinda seem to prefer the 6900when working out just because if I am active it is nice to be able to quickly press a button with no struggle. I usually prefer low profile watches that don't get caught on my sleeve when wearing long sleeves but there are also some situations like again when I workout where I actually like to have the bigger size to block my sleeve so I can more quickly raise my wrist to check the time vs having to pull sleeve up every time.

Extraction pics are a Rangeman, but I can't tell if you were saying it was a 6900 or not.

Personally, part of why I have one of the simpler g shock models is for it to not wear like my Rangeman or mudmaster. I want it to be slim, inconspicuous, and easy to wear sleeves and gloves over. The 5600 style works better for that, for me, and I can't really justify buying the 6900 just as another flavor of the same thing that fills the niche I'm looking for slightly worse. If I don't need the watch to be small and shock resistant, I'm just going to wear a big chonky g shock like my mudmaster. 5600 and 6900 are both iconic, and I feel that little spark of joy when I spot either of them in movies or in person because I just like g shocks.

Yea, was just trying to say it was similar in style. Knew it wasn't a 6900, but def used same general design.

Front light button is best light button.

·

Not sure I agree with your statement of 5600 being less popular. It is the Gshock, would be shocked if 6900 is more sold model. I would even say 2100 is more sold than 6900

·

5600, 6900, 2100.... I own all three. The 5600 is my daily work beater, the 6900 is for weekends and the heavy lifting, 2100 for the golf course.

·

The 6900 is an iconic 90s Design and it fits my wrist more comfortable than the squares somehow.

I like both. Before I cared alot about solar and multiband 6 but in day to day live it doesnt matter. I can set the time once per month to be more accurate and the gschock batteries last pretty long anyway.
