what just happened?

early this week I took delivery of my very awesome LumTec Solar Marine II meaning to do a deep dive into the watch itself… but guess what?!? i just got jacked, by my son 😜😂🤣

i threw it on a single pass bond nato threw it on his wrist to try, but never got it back! he had it in for the rest of the week, add to that they are learning how to tell time in class

btw he is only 5 but notices my affinity towards watches so i guess the apple def doesnt fall far from the tree 🌲 he even wanted to take a wristshot with the big boys during our dinner outing

i may end up buying another sooner than later 🤦🏽

Haha, awesome

You do realize that you’re never getting it back now, right?

That's great! Something else you can share with your son. I started collecting too late. My son doesn't want a watch (let alone any of mine) because he has his phone.

Never too late. I just gifted a quartz I'd had in my collection for a couple years to my son.

He'll get a customized Undone when he graduates from high school.

We'll get there.

Your sons got good taste. When I talked to my son about my watches cause I’m thinking about getting him his first he says he likes my manual pocket watch 🤷‍♂️.

That's an awesome 1st watch for your son... if you finally decide to give it to him, instead of being "on a test ride". Should you decide to give it, one thing that perhaps may up the ante is if you tell him that for now, it's partly his. But, he has to earn and work for it. Whatever measure you use (e.g. grades, allowance, etc.), this will surely up the "value" of the piece in his mind, instead of it being a watch that he thinks he stealthily took for himself, and one-uped his Dad. Hehehe... But for sure, whatever you decide, this piece will tell lots of stories by the time he's 25. 🍻

Been in the same spot, now my oldest has my Seiko SNE solar and a Citizen Promaster auto and I spotted him eyeing off my vintage Seiko 5. I like that he's interested in my hobby and he appreciates the history and also the quality in watches from all price ranges, but this could be detrimental to my watch collection moving forward 🤣

Such a great thing your son loves the new watch but I agree with everyone so far, consider it his now, it's no longer yours buddy 😂 Like hakki501 suggested, maybe get him to earn the watch so he will grow to appreciate it that much more in the long run. Anything in life we shouldn't take for granted, even a simple watch, we all work for what we want which is a great lesson to learn at even such a young age as 5.

But hey you do you mate and if you want to just give him the watch then who am I to say otherwise, it's your to give 💯

That is Awesome! It's fun watching your kid do things like that. It never gets old. My kid is 23 and I just bought him an Armitron Ridgemont as a personal house warming gift a couple of weeks ago.

I just had a look at Undone. Looks really cool imo. The customizability is great. Thanks for the comment! I learned something new.

yup, his mom (my wife) wont let him getaway with just “taking” it…. it is currently part of his lesson to learn how to tell time, so hopefully it works out for the both of them

he’s had “other” watches, mainly kid digitals until they broke, he regularly wears a f91 casio that withstood all the abuse a 5yo can throw at it, but this solar marine is going to be his first “analog” ill probably borrow it from time to time 😂

Good job and good luck!  Unfortunately, my chances are slim since I started collecting after my son graduated college and left home.  Appreciate and enjoy the time you have with your kids and I hope you can share this hobby with your son. They grow up and are gone before you know what happened.

On another note, you gifted a quartz watch to your son BUT I gifted a quartz watch from my son to myself (an old Timex field watch we got him in middle school that he never wore b/c (you know) he has his phone. It's tiding me over until I decide what field watch to get myself.
