Hamilton is one of the best field watch brand IMHO, they're not perfect but create some of cool watches.
If you are designing your own, what would be your preference? This Hammy is not perfect, but real close. This is my personal preference, would love to hear yours 😊

The 38mm Murph is pretty darn close! Yes a screw down crown would be an improvement, but would rather have better lume and strap.

What would be your perfect Hamilton?
Murph 38 on a factory bracelet would be awesome.
Murph 38 on a factory bracelet with a 3, 6, 9 dial would be mind blowing.

Totally agree with you.
I think the best field watch isn't a field watch at all, but a pilot's watch, the Marathon Navigator.
It's thin, light, has a high contrast dial/hands, 60m WR, an accurate/reliable quartz movement, has a second time zone/timing bezel, and has tritium so it remains legible in all light conditions.
At 41mm it sounds like it's too big, but the case shape makes it a perfect fit on my wrist, and the dial size prevents it from looking large.
If not the Navigator, my next pick would be the Timex Atlantis/Expedition.
It's thin, light, 100m WR, two time zones, perpetual calendar, and has Indiglo.
The new 38mm Murph is by far and away the best Hamilton field watch to me. The proportions are better and it has the extra water resistance. I think it should have a screw down crown though.
After debating which field watch to buy for quite some time, I did not choose a Hamilton. I bought a Tudor Ranger. I fell in love with the design and feel of the Ranger.
It’s hard to go past Hamilton when it comes to field watches. They've really nailed this part of the segment and I’ve been really happy with mine.
I also think the Hamilton Khaki field is the best field Watch at the moment, this is mine, but I made the mistake of buying the 42mm 🤦🏻♂️, today I would have chosen the 38mm. The only change I would make would be to improve the AR coating, which the current one is terrible. I wouldn’t add screw down crown, the current 10 bar WR is enough to me and I like the easy way to wind. Within the military area, if I were to choose another watch, now a pilot, I would “create” the Longines Spirit from 37mm to 38mm just like the Hamilton, but with the same Spirit dial which is fantastic, this for me would be the perfect military watch.

Not mine yet, but this is my choice.
