My reason to pick this reference was exactly that. The simplest dial. The automatic version had a dial that was too busy.
I have lusted after one of these for a long time... I just can't do mineral crystal. I am way too clumsy scratch the heck out of any mineral crystal, especially one that protrudes that much out of the case.
